FULL WIDTH! Go Big or Go Home. Come on Rick do you really need the answer to this. The way you break parts you will not want custom length axles. I'm at 65" WMS and 77" to outside of tire and 2"-3" more wouldn't hurt. At least thats what she said. Ken is running offset wheels if you want even more or you could go the other way with backspace.

I have a 3 1/2" offset and I think if I did'nt they would rub pretty good but who no's.....SANTA

I was going to take a close look at your trailer and your removable fender, but I also found a picture of a nice set up that allowed you to drive over the fender.
I guess I don't need to worry about that now anyway.

Ever hear of a Samurai? (or however you spell that Suzuki mini)
I've seen many out there running 37's. Very capable rigs, but maybe too light.

As far as the costs go, I don't think it would be nearly half price. But it could be cheaper to build than a full size rig.

A samurai is no mid-engine, tube frame buggy, with a decent WB.

However, if streetability is also a factor it might not be the best choice.

Who carries spare axle shafts in a buggy? You build it so it doesn't break, not so you can repair it with more cheap stock axle shafts. The idea is to build something that you don't worry about breaking, then use common sense driving.

At least that's how some of us look at it.

as much as it costs to get the project completed by August.

As far as breaking. I don't think I've broken too many things on my rig.
I have a problem with front axle shafts (even CroMo), some
electrical gremlins in the past as well as a TRE (or hiem) or two.
But if I stay off of Clawhammer (that trail has it out for my tie rods!)
its all pretty good.

Well, Dave wheeled the crap out of that front end and I think all he ever broke was a Warn hub. Rear ends aren't as costly to build.

I'm 81" in the front. Not ideal for comp stuff but for trail riding it feels so much more stable.
I say keep it full width if you're on a budget, but its fairly easy to change backspacing on wheels to compensate, but then again, Utah is different than California is different than East Coast. We build our rigs to suit our needs so build it to suit your terrain.

In this case, I'm building it within the constraints dictated to me by the Finance Minister, otherwise it would be a Tru Hi-9 front and rear!
Having Johnson Valley here is so unfair, most people can get away with
far less expensive builds when they never are going to see the Hammers.

i know a guy who just put d60s front and rear in his tj, all geared, locked, and im pretty darn sure alloy shafts, hi steer and disk brakes on all 4 corners. he bought them new already shortened and whatnot for 6k. dont know where he got them, but im sure i could find out for you.

35 spline axles (something off the shelf preferably) and a 5X5.5 bolt pattern.
I already have bead locks (15") so it would save me some cash.
Is there a break set up that would work?
