That's an easy question to answer.

Now how about setting them up?

I run ADS, they are made in my local town. Same machine shop that builds all the HOWE steering stuff.

ADS coilovers are comparable to kings. I run 2.5in not 2in shocks. 16in stroke, stiff valving, and I have 150-14 over a 200-16, it sits at about 5in of uptravel. Id like to make it a tripple rate setup using a top 90-5.5 coil, will giv eme more ride heigh adjustments.

The spring rate is just what is required to hold the amout of weight "X" you have at a height "Y" and to not let your springs fall out at full drop or hit coil on coil at full compression.

The shock valving is used to control ride feal stiff ness or softness. If you bottom out alot, you dont get stiffer coils you get stiffer shock valving.

How to set them up:

2.5" pffhhh, I would like to make a set of 4"ers. For a bit faster stuff though.

And farther.........and heavier.

$$$$$$$

:)

So, what happened to ZaqSquatch? :)

Thought we might have a decent discussion on setting up coilovers for those who might be interested. With a title like that this should get hit in some future searches.

Poly Perfprmance came out with a conversion for the TJ's, I bet it would not take too much to adapt his design to the XJ, only difference would be the upper end since we would have to mount to a unibody instead of a frame

I pulled a set about a week ago thinking the same thing... we thought right! You would need to plate the frame above the axle to weld them in securely, you would have to cut the wheel-well out some though.

I'd go for the Rear coilover kit and just do some fab for some reinforcement plates:

and place it through the fender kinda like this:

BTW: I'm trying to talk Dave (actually Drew) into making some XJ specific brackets like the TJ stuff. Of course I would have to test all of it first... :D

I've worked with FOX's and SAW, I perfer to work with the SAW because of the way they are threaded and FOX's valve numbering system is kinda :gee:

What kind of coilover tech you looking for? Set the springs so you have the amount of shaft you want showing, add the tenders to keep tension on the springs at full droop.

Valving is a bit more complicated.

If I was going CO's, I'd look really hard at Walker Evans stuff. We use thier air shocks and they really work well.

Why would you want coilover AIRshocks? It might save you a few bucks, but why not upgrade to Emulsions(sp?)?

I don't understand that as well and seems counter-productive. Coils belong on coil-overs not air shocks.
