im totally pissed at the jeep right now. im working on my 89 xj. i cant get the front driver side brake hard line outta the proporting valve. i dont know what size the fitting is and there is like room in there . im stressed and tired and have been searching and if anyone knows any good threads on this i would be greatly appreciated or if someone could tell me what they did to get their hard line off the proporting valve cuz i thought it was 3/16 and im using the flare wrench but no luck and now im just stripping it i think. im so angry at my jeep right now...i have a rol of hardline and fittings . i already did the rear with not nearly as many probs as the front.

yah, i had to cut everything off and broke the proporting valve sensor so i gotta replace that and all the front hard lines, but i already planned on doing that, just not tonight

x2 on the vice grips and i would use a little heat from a propane torch (i actually use the yellow bottles, just brain farted on the name of the gas, it is hotter than propane) it should come right off.

mapp gas.. note of caution although not the most flammable liquid, brake fluid is still flammable

it stops burning pretty much as soon as you take the torch off it.

the trick is not to catch the layer of grease and sludge from that valve cover leak you let go for like five months too long. that does not go out on is own. and fire extinguishers make an awful mess in a small garage.

you could also cut the line right next to the fitting and try to squeeze a socket on there for better grip. can't remember if there's room or not but if you could use a socket, you could use one just a bit small and tap it on, that will it will grip the stripped fitting... not the best option but if the vise grips slip it's going to make a mess as well.

i'm with the vise grip crowd on this one. sucks. i've been there. good luck.

ya, well i had to cut em all off and now im making all new front lines to go with my longer gmc 2wd lines and the new proportioning valve i got at the junkyard today for free...
