Front axle Ox locker cable routing

The previous owner of my '99 XJ installed an Ox locker in the D30 front axle. It has a manual shifter, i. e., no air or electronic actuator. I have to replace the cable because the old one is badly damaged from rubbing against the tire. Obviously, I won't be routing the cable in the same way.

I'd be very interested in seeing how others have routed front Ox locker cables in their XJs to avoid rubbing, pinching, and heat damage. Pictures would be much appreciated!

I know this doesn't really answer your specific question, but when I picked up my present axle, which already had a Ox locker in it, I opted for the air actuator. Two reasons, my former axle had an ARB in in, so airlines were already run, and I didn't want to hassle finding a routing path and location for the cable. I believe that the air actuator will cost about the same as a replacement cable. Obviously, if you don't have an air source, that adds expense. I would NOT recommend the electric actuator. It's a short (12"?)cable, with a solenoid at the end. the air is much cleaner - screws directly into the diff cover.

And yes, I've already sold my cable assembly, sorry.

I've considered that, but don't have on-board air and really don't want to incur the expense. Thanks for the thought though.

Adding air to your rig is never a bad option you can get the arb compressors relatively cheap or a decent viair setup with tank for a little more and never need visit a gas station or bum a compressor off a member of the ride.

I have a viair unit with tank that will run tools fill tires and pretty much anything requiring air and the price was under 400. Did the install at home in about 2 hours works great.
