he's got a 95 gmc jimmy and the parking brake light came on and the caution thing came on. at first it ran fine then while parked in my drive way i had the bright idea to tellhim to push it down and realese it. well he did then it wouldn't move. we got pliers and pulled on the wire for an hour and got it half way un stuck and said screw it he lives a mile away. we drove their with half the parking brake on and when we pulled in his drivway it was night and the front brakes(where parking brakes is) were glowing ornge like hot steel. i guess he needs all new brakes now right? or just new pads (it's drum brakes) what do u think is wrong with it?

"front brakes(where parking brakes is) were glowing ornge like hot steel"
The front brakes are NOT in any way engaged by the parking brake cable.
Were the fronts glowing? If so then the rotor is probably trashed as well as the pads, and possibly the brake calipers if it got that hot.
In any case the problem with the parking brake is probably a bad cable or possibly the lever that pushes the pads against the drum needed lubricated. The return spring could also be shot. Replacing the rear brakes and cable should fix it since rear brakes pads come with all the new hardware and springs.
As far as teh front brakes glowing was that a typo and you meant rear brakes?

well we found out what it was they took it to the shop and found out his dad put power stering fluid in the brake revsiour (douh) so yeah that messed it all up it's all his dad's fault lol

thats almost as funny as my buddy's wife fillin her overflow bottle with his very expensive synthetic 20-50 oil and then tryin to clean it out with they're over priced bagless vacumm(all together it cost him like 1500 bucks!)
