found a nice site for some trails.

Hhhhmm interesting. Seems that site is not helpful to everyone, and I was not aware of the MD trails being so crappy either. Is there any trails in MD that would take some kind of skill to ride on? or around the va/md/pa line other than paragon. I'm new to the game and don't know much about the area to know where to wheel at, hence the failed attempt at the web find. :) Any info would be great. Thanx

Well you are right there at one of the better wheelin' spots, thing is it's a club / private land area. KGB http://groups.msn.com/kgb4wheelers has a farm right there in Brunswick... thing is if you aren't running at least 33's, lockers F&R, don't care if you get major body damage, and usually have at least finished your 1st 12 pack by 9 am on sat and sun mornings then you probably won't enjoy running with them very much as those guys are pretty much totally insane.
The club I'm in, Cumberland Valley Four Wheelers, does a few events with them each year but we are a far different crowd. We run equally hard trails just no booze and are a bit more sane (could be the lack of being drunk???) There has been some talk of doing a few more additional runs this year that would be more geared towards the less modified vehicles since we have talked about wanting to expand the membership a little. We have a few great places to wheel on private ground and some of those even have some less difficult trails but we really never make use of them too often. Give Kevin a shout at [email protected] and let him know if you are interested.
There are 2 great places if you don't mind paying to play. http://www.bigdogsoffroad.com/ puts on 4 great weekend long events each year not too far from Winchester VA over in Gore, and there are trails there for everyone at any skill or equipment level.
http://www.rauschcreekoffroadpark.org/ is the other, they are much like Paragon in varitey of trails but much better really (maybe I'm biased since I helped put a few of the trails in there :) ) Plus they are fairly close, just up a few miles further up 81 past Harisburg.

Right now, As it stands from only talking to a soldier that operates a wrecker it seems as though most of the "tank" trails are closed after 9/11. An ID will certainaly help if I am caught trespassing. From his understanding the main tank trails go from muddy to downright dont' try it unless you have 44 inch boggers and then still your never gonna make it. To his understanding he says there may be the small trails used by hummers and stuff in some of the local towns that are not used. He is pretty sure these are the rocky hill climbing runs.

I am getting a Topo Map on Sunday so I can find out what is what. I plan on running the trails any way with my XJ and a buddy's TJ. I'll see what I can dig up. We won't be able to run these trails until at least the next two weeks or so. I'll keep everyone posted.

I also got a contact number for someone to call on Base. I think one of the only ways we might be able to swing this, if it's good terrain is to make a run with another club from Syracuse NY called Twisted Axles. I'm gonna run it by officials see if a lot of interest from two clubs would suffice to allow something to be done.

Art, NY is not half as bad as Connecticut if you can run access and logging roads. The only such roads in Connecticut are in the state forests, and those are off-limits to 4-wheeling. Which means that unless a club can make an arrangement with a private land owner, there is NOTHING in this state. The last remaining trail we had dubious access to has been declared closed by the D.E.P. since our chapter last ran it. I'm talking to a local group to see about getting it opened again, but I wouldn't mortgage the farm on our chances.
Interesting, as I heard that trail was now "seasonal" if we are talking about the same one, another club I'm in was going to run it this weekend but changed trips due to it being closed for "mud season"
Being very short on cash, time to wrench or wheel, (at least lately) this last year I have stuck to little dirt roads around my area, there are a couple all of them very short easy stocker rides, ( I could take my wifes Forester thru them if she'd let me) I understand about the CT issue, I spend a lot of time scouting posted signs over the state line from me. they look a lot like the ones on my side of the border ;-)
