...just got back from the 'con.
Went up Friday and was aired down and heading in through Gatekeeper by 4:30. Ran into Del at Ellis Creek and chatted a little then drove to Spyder Lake. There was a group at Soup Bowl so I drove it to show them what a grocery getter could do. :D
Once up at the box I ran in to my neighbor Paul and a group who were there to work. They had already drilled and epoxied in the rebar for saturday's project.
Saturday morning about 30 or so of us gathered to build the official Little Sluice bypass. We hauled about 15 truck loads of rock and mixed 100 bags of concrete. We were done by noon due to the great effort everyone put out to accomplish this project.

Once again a great weekend with the FOTR group, these guys care and are making a difference.

Hey Jes, I would love to help out these work days but I never seem to know when they are coming up. If and when I do get a weekend or a day this would be a worth while event to do. I bet it in Pirate all the time but I never go over there and look. If you know about them sooner post it or just e-mail me so I can see if I can go.

Just curious, I am sure they know what they are doing, but what was the goal there, was that area washing out or something?

it looks like the area right before the box, is it help get up on the side or something? Or is the goal to just get one bypass rather than the several ways around it?

I was supposed to be up on the Dusy with the guys but my work schedual messed up my plans and I couldn't get Thursday and Friday off. So, I worked Friday morning then headed up by myself and hooked up with some of the Pirates and FOTR folks who were up there Friday evening.
The deal with the bypass was that the Jeepers Jamboree needed a way to get stock/mildly modified vehicles past the box. The new bypass goes up the slab to the left before Little Sluice then drops down just after the sluice. The section we did the work at is after the sluice and was pretty nasty accounting for numerous rollovers. What we did was make it passable and lessened the off camberness(new word? :) )of it. More on it can be read here.

Mark your calenders!
September 27th is the annual Rubicon clean up date.

Work day turned out great. We were done way sooner than anyone expected. The group I was with went all the way through the trail to Tahoe.

(Hey, I'm in that second picture, in a black shirt with a cement bag. I t was so nice to jump into the Spider lake to get all that cement dust off.)

Dennis, were you the guy with the green 2 door XJ I met at Soup Bowl? I'm a retard when it comes to remembering names. :dunce:

Kudos Jes! Wish I could have gone up instead of being stuck here in the valley. :rattle:

A great way to keep informed about work days is to book mark the 'Friends of the Rubicon' web page. :D
