for you guys who have put money into a 30, i have some questions for ya....
first off, im not going to 30spline, not, so anything involving that isnt an option.

my issues with the stock shafts is never the shafts, i snap the ujoints causing the shaft ears to warp/break. so the joint is most important thing.

in a kit like this: http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-128237-alloy-usa-chromoly-shafts-lr-front-dana-30-alloy12148.html
are the joints any stronger? or just the shafts?

there are these for joint upgrades : http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-135220-yukon-dana-30-super-joint.html
but is the claim true? that they will outlive the shafts?

looking around for alloy shafts and upgraded joints, im looking at being in the 8-900 dollar range.... if i spend that kinda cash should i just opt for the RCV's?

IMO, most joint failures are actually due to the ears bending and allowing the cap to pull. Chromoly shafts with full circle clips will make the entire assembly much stronger even with spicer joints.

Funny you mention this considering I just finished polishing a 30 front housing tonight actually. Turned out pretty good. I have a set of Nitro chromos that I'll be throwing in this.

I ran the Yukon joints for awhile in my 30. They suck in a daily driver, they require constant greasing. Unless you are going to run a hub conversion I would pass them up. I wish the RCV's would have been an option back when I was turd polishing.

thats purty...nice job!:worship: that xj just gets wickeder by the post!

well for what it would take for me to go any bigger than 35's is just simply out of my budget and fab skills...
so the 30/8.25 set will serve my intensions fine.

this WILL be a DD for now and i will continue running the hubs...

as far as bending tabs and caps popping out, these caps were tack welded in place to "alleviate" that issue. i dont think it worked so well for me :gee:

i think the RCV's are the #1 choice but didnt know if anything else that would be a bit cheaper would suffice, or if i should suck it up and pay up front for the RCV's?

what are you running now firelt?
thanks for input so far guys

if they are polishing turds then why are ya wasting your time Mike???? nice attitude lately! been noticing that alot lately with your posts.
thanks. im trying. damn time of year gets my meds all out of wack so takes a few weeks to get things settled back in

I am running the Alloy USA joints in my 44. Ran them in the 30 after I ditched the Yukon joints. So far no issues with the joints. They are not expensive at all and come with the full circle clips. I do keep in mind when I'm wheelin that I gained nothing in joint strength when I built the 44.
I was just looking at RCV's site and they now make the outers I run. I bet they could put the outers on some Rubi inners if I wanted to pony up the coin. I will explore that route if I have issues with the current gear.

ya see thats my biggest concern is the joint strength. i want whatever option i go with to be the strongest joints possible lol

I'd go with the RCV's I think.

If you did a hub conversion or weren't daily driving it I'd say just get chromo shafts with CTM u-joints, but I don't think that brass bushing will hold up to daily driving. You'd be rebuilding them too much.

Or just go 1ton axles :D

If you want to spend the coin, go with the RCV's. Stout shafts and joints, and you can't beat the warranty!

ya the warranty is nice, but i thought i read somewhere that if the shafts are not installed by a recognized shop, there is no warranty

I wouldn't see them voiding the warranty on a simple install...however, I could see them voiding the warranty if you tried to rebuild or replace the joint. I know Tom Woods is that way with his drive shafts.

But it's definitely something to triple check before you drop the coin!!
