I am getting ready for FW and have two different ways I could go I guess.

Will an XJ hold up to a heavy D60 up front? Or is it gonna rip the body to pieces over time? I have one from a 85 F350 Ford laying around.

I was thinking stay with a D44 from a 76 F150 I have and run a 9" rear. I am looking at 36-38" tall rubber to run on it.

I am easy on the gas most of the time and have been running a welded D35 with 32" TSLs for almost a year now with no breaks.

What is the intended terrain for said axle?

Gear ratio?

mostly limestone ledges and rocks. I pretty much never go muddin. Tuttle Creek in north central KS if you ever yeard of it. It is in the KS flint hills. Some pretty good ledges and a few rock garden and hill climbs.

I also play around the pastures around home.

The D60 has 4.10s in it right now. The D44/9" I was planningon 5.13 or something in that neighborhood.

here are some pics with terrain examples. Mine is the one with the bent tierod :)

The downside of the 60 is a bit less clearance. It's not going to do any more harm to the Uni-body vs. the 44, if you reinforce in the standard ways.

The 60 ends up cheaper in the long run, because if you want to run 37's or 38's, Warn shafts and CTM's are a must for the 44.

Go with the 60, nothin better than peice of mind, besides I kinda partial to my 60's front and rear

yeap, definatly 60s.

if you have it why not use it?

they arent any stronger then the stock d30 but they sure do look cool. (maybe im exagerating a little)

Then only reason you wouldn't go with the 60 is if ya were sure a 44 was gonna be strong enough then you could sell the 60 for enough to build a hell of a solid 44. Just a thought, but I'd probably toss the 60 in hehe

Another vote for the 60, weight is not an issue, if it were you should also think about those heavy meats you want to fit. Build the 60, get 35 spline outers and be done with it.
