i just purchased hella fog lights for my 2000 xj and i dont know anything when it comes to installing them, i've heard the rumors about wiring for fog lights already being there but when i tried that i lost my gauge lights, if someone could post some information or a link i could go to and see what im doing wrong it would be appreciated

Well, what have you done so far and how much do you understand? Are you trying to wire up foglights to the stock foglight switch? Do you even have a stock foglight switch? A bit more information would help.

i have the lights mounted and i tried wiring them to what i thought was the stock foglight wire (right inside the bumper there are two wires connected to a harnass) which what i thought came out to the center dash next to my rear defroster and wiper (that had 4 wires, different colors connected to a harnass) there was no stock switch, i am a new xj owner and am clueless when it comes to wiring lights in

I have a '95 w/o fog lights but it still has the harness inside (and I'm sure outside too), but I'm guessing that there still needs to be a relay dropped in to complete the circuit. Have no idea why you'd have lost your gauge lights though. :dunno:

You plugged into the temp sensor connector for the overhead console, thats whats up in the nose.
The only way to use the stock foglight setup is to get the fog light wiring harness which comes with relays, switch, new panel and directions.
www.jeepsareus.com sells them, you just need the kit not the lights.
Install the interior portion of the kit, once thats done you will have ONE yellow wire that you run thru the firewall to up near the battery. That wire operates the Hella relay, use the hella wires for the lights themselve, they are heavier gauge than the stock wires that come in that kit.
Just for clarification, a relay is nothing more than a remotely operated switch, it is nothing more except the hella relay has a fuse built into it which makes them convienent to use and keeps from having a 10a fuse hanging around somwhere so don't let the relay freak you out, thats all it is, a switch that is operated by a mechanical switch on the dashboard..

unless your a stickler to keep things original i would suggest putting them on a seperate switch that you install whereever you want i tied mine into the parking lights to trigger the relay so i wouldnt have to worry about having to turn them off every time i left the truck i bought cheap ones that came with a self adheseve switch that i kinda stuck outa sight so it wouldnt look to ugly hope this helps

He's in the socialist state of mass and needs to have them tied into the low beam switch, easy to do if you have a meter and understand what you're looking for or using the factory add on kit which has the correct plugs and does it for you [cept for one wire that has to be spliced in, a brown one if I remember right]...
