fog light switch

ok, I made a better use of my fog light switch by making it turn some rock lights on. I know that it works cause I had one side working, but now nothing works except for the relay being switched when I toggle the light switch on. Could I have fried the relay?

Unlikely -- most automotive relays are rated for 30 amps or better. If the relay clicks, it's probably not fried. Where's the fuse in the circuit? Maybe the fuse is blown?

I thought the fuse was before the relay, but I'll have to look at the FSM again.

This is the OEM relay? The fuse in that circuit only handles the lighting load, not the control (switch) side of the circuit. If the fuse blew, there's no power coming into the relay for the lighting circuit, but the switch can make the relay click 'til the cows come home.

Also, the OEM fog light circuit only operates the lights when the low beams are on. The late-model XJs will also operate with parking lights only, but in your year it was ONLY with low beams on.
