flaming throttle body?

My jeep had a few issues this weekend. First after a rather large water hole my speedo, tach, and radio ceased to function. On the way home it died completely. I could only get it start when jumping it. Figure the alternator is out. I removed the distributor and cleaned it out, pulled the plugs and cleaned them, and removed the intake. Changed the oil, gear lube, and transmission fluid. Now it wont crank up, but when I touch the gas a flame shoots out of the throttle body :flamemad: . I think it might be the timming, but before I try again I was hoping some of you motor heads out there might have a better idea. Thanks ahead of time.

Well I can tell you from experience that if you put the plug wires on the distibuter wrong it will shoot flames out the TB. What causes it, is if you put the plug wires in the right order on the distributer but in the worng rotation. check that out first.

throttle position sensor.

same situation, same problem, 96 XJ... caused by TPS

till you can change it, soak the ever lovin crap outta the TPS and its connector with WD-40 (it'll get ya home/off the trail)

had NO idea a TPS could do that

make sure that when #1 is in the firing position the rotor is pionting at #1 wire.
