4.0 progress, not sure what its going in yet though.

Ohhhhh ok my bad, just .20 over and a cam with some head porting along with some custom valve work. After I get the spider 9s under my jeep and driving ill see what I want to do with it. Idk you want a fresh 4.0? Prob like $2500.

Went out Thursday night..... Failed hard, front calipers were sticking so ya, new ones on. Works better.

As I was doing the brakes I threw an Aussie locker in, goes in the snow a lot better now.

Bought that fancy transfer case linkage for $50 last year and am now just trying to install it but I may be missing something. See how this goes.

well 4.0 progress, short block is about 80% done, rotating assy is final installed and some custom tweaks.

rings fitted into each cylinder for end-gap measurement, checked for burrs then installed onto corresponding piston.

OEM factory 4.0 rods have a small squirter hole in them to spray a little extra oil onto the cam shaft, the matching OEM bearings have a matching hole in them to line up with the rod. the aftermarket Clevite 77 bearings do not have the hole so we filed a notch out of them for the oil squirter.

ARP rod bolts have a torque spec along with a min and max stretch tolerance on them, torque them up to what ARP recommends then measure stretch and adjust torque accordingly.

we've also decided that this 4.0 is going into my brothers 96 shit-box with a 5spd, break it in and dyno it for an actual HP/TQ number. then post it up for sale and drive it till a buyer is lined up, as he's waiting on that he has some odd ball NASCAR 4.0 crank shaft stroker deal with stupid forged race rods of some kind. no idea what the hell it is but something stupid that will be around 4.6/4.8L. i'll let him talk about that at another time.

5.3 progress after I got home from finishing up the axle brackets. This thing is looking shittier and shittier the more I tear into it. Pretty sure I'm at least doing the aftermarket rocker upgrade with mild head work. Although i keep thibking i should doing a cam while I'm in there. We'll see what happens after the 4.slow is done and the master motor builder gets his hands on it.

awesome work! I can't wait until you part this thing out

Hahaha. Want that 9in I have under it now?

After doing all this work and seeing all of the KOH stuff I'm thinking I should let someone race it, or go west and maybe wheel it in the desert where it's fun.

I'm not putting a lot into this LS, rocker upgrade and maybe a cam regrind at most with the car intake. I'm only going to shoot for 350 crank HP with this one but mostly just want it to sound like a race car. Depending on how I feel after everything else is done I'd be looking at doing a 6.X+ stroker motor that's all out race for 600+ HP. But a cage would be needed first or I'd probably end up with a twisted taco looking XJ.

Has anyone here used the STaK D300 replace a case upgrades? I can get an old D300 for like free so that would make like a mini atlas out of it.

Opie, XJ Ranger, built a replace a case. I believe he liked it and such, but by the time you buy it and all the associated parts its a lot of coin. Plus, if you do a 4:1 kit in it, it'll be cheaper to just buy an atlas or something else.

The case is $725 from STaK, I'd use all the parts from the D300 so that wouldn't cost that much would it?

I know. Their built D300 ready to run is $2100 all done up. I don't need fancy extra extra super low, just a twin stick transfer case that works.
I am still keeping an eye out for a stock trans case for the 4l60e in the meantime.

After some wandering around on Pirate, seems STaK is out of business or in the process of being bought out. Trail worth fab is buying them or in the process of a D300 case upgrade.

In all honesty I could just make this a pass drop front axle and run an unmodified D300 but limits my resale customer base. Oh, just remembered, have a driver side hoising I the way anyway. Hmmmm. Decisions.

My buddy called an was told the cases are about a year out also,,. So if that's what your planning on running, might as well order it now. Or grab a used atlas off pirate for the same price or cheaper after you factor in all the internal upgrades for the stack case too

What is a rear out? Seems STaK is going under or at less has suck ass quality in their latest parts.

At this point I'm looking at just a D300 flip.
