finaly got an XJ 99 limited with some stuff

I knew that, since I've cut up 94 and 98 dodge trucks. Toyota went driver side sometime as well.

Tom's build plans change more often then Luke's.

:D

How dare you!!!! Don't say things you can't take back. Tat kid had no idea what he's doing, while I'm not claiming to be a 4x4 genius I can get things done.

The only thing I'm worried about and want nothing to do with is wiring and the computer on the LS. I hate electrics shit.

Money wise.... I like seeing the large numbers when I chec my ballance but... Going full retard on this just so I can laugh at my cousin while doing a lawn job in this with an LS on 4 spinning 37s will be worth it. He also doubted me when I told him my ideals for this.
The more I get into the jeep and read up on modifying stuff it only comes down to money, that's it, money. If I spend it I will have a 350+ HP LS powered XJ on 609s with 37s.

also, I noticed you mentioned no money, yet you have one of the most complex builds on this site with capable, expensive ideas, and only want to use it for street use with the occasional dirt road?

That is mostly correct, but snow more than dirt.
When I tally up the build cost I won't even add in the OEM D60 cost.
I wanted to save money towards buying a house..... That won't happen now. I'll sell one of my guns in a month or two and it will more than cover the axle builds. Plus selling what's under it now.

I'm not going through the trouble of shortening the D60. At that point why the hell not make a much better axle. Already making 2 cuts on the axle tube.

So youll basically have johns jeep.

I do what now?

Oh if that Dodge D60 is out of my driveway by Sunday afternoon it's $200

I already have one for my project, that's a damn good price for the whole axle but I only actually need one part out of it LOL. I guess I'll hit the yard.

Let me know if you need a hand with the electrical stuff once the drivetrain is in, I'm a wires nerd. In fact I spent today planning the CAN bus for a flying car :laugh2:

Sounds like it! John's has been perfected over more years then most of us have driving though.

ok well can you clue the rest of us in on that inside joke because i'm lost. the guy just builds, sells, rebuilds, sells, re-re builds?

yes def gonna need the help, you any good with modifying the OEM harness? i plan on buying the Novak thingy to make the V8 work with the OEM I6 tach even though it's $180 but.... 6 aftermarket custom gauges are $400-500 so ya.

sent ya an IM too

im retarded and figured out how to chop up my harness. basically, you need constant 12 volts to the orange wires, and a fused key on 12 volts to the pink wires, and it will run.

Another though, how ****ed am I when I have to do emissions? I don't think I can get the jeep CEL to go off can I?

KTM can you hook up a comp to the LS ECU to tune it and what not?

Doing the rear now I am measuring from the cross member JJ to a lug at 12 on the axle, just get left and right to have the same distance and I'm good?

some people can, I don't have the tools to do so.

I put mine in a 78 so i dont have to deal with all that. if you do a standalone swap there will be no cel. but, the vehicle will have to go through emissions as a 20xx chevy xxxx v8 methinks.

It's just an OBD2 hook up and cat check. No CEL and you have a cat... Pass go, pay the state.

most people who do standalone setups ditch the cats and downstream 02's.

do they check the cat efficiency through the ecm?

No idea. None of my vehicles have passed emissions, never got anything from the state in the mail. Prob still legal hhaha. I'll cross that bridge when I get there, or burn it.

Almost 2 am, rear perches are welded, drive shaft is hooked up, wheels are back on and I ran out of booze. Time to call it quits for the night.

Picking up an OEM front line tomorrw. running the rear, and putting the hard line onto the housing then playing with the drums. Gonna have back brakes for the first time in over a year hahaha.
After that I'll pick up some tire rod ends from NAPA so I can play with the steering some. Hell if I feel lucky maybe I'll start it up too.

Seeing as it is a 99 with the CCD bus driven cluster it is going to be interesting keeping the factory cluster. Possible, but interesting. And I don't think the Novak module will work, but it might, got a link for it?

If you had a 96 or earlier it would be incredibly easy.

As for OEM harnesses... yeah I'm good with those. Get yourself a good FSM with a solid wiring diagram for the engine donor make/model/year, I think I have a 99 XJ FSM around somewhere, the rest is details.

Getting the gauge cluster working will be the hardest part, and I'm reasonably certain I have an idea of how to go about doing it, I've been meaning to play around with that stuff for a while.

well i found this ****er in there today along with the "slip" part of the drive shaft that doesn't move. looks like i'll be calling tom woods monday.

no needle bearings in there at all and the slip part was packed with dirt i seems, took about 15min with a dead blow hammer to get it off and another 30min of cleaning it doesn't let is move smoothly. DONE!!!

really should have started with a stock jeep at this point, rear leaf mounts seem tweaked a bit too

Don't bother with an aftermarket shaft till you have your engine/suspension/axle choices finalized and the parts actually installed, because you're blowing a few hundred for no reason if the new setup changes their length and you need another or to change the length.
