No doors!!!! Finally after two years of talking about it I made to move to do the removable door modification and I have been loving every minute of it!!!

I will be doing the same thing to the rear doors once I get a little more free time. Doing the front doors were harder that I expected but was absolutely worth it!

Sweet I just did mine about a week ago also and its great. I'm going to work on some tube doors next weekend.

I would LOVE some tube doors for mine but I don't have the tools nor the skills yet to fab some up. And I certainly don't have the money for some pre-fab ones.

nice! I want to take my doors off to but I scared I won't be able to get them back on. do they fit back on nice?

I got Jamescad to help me with mines when I did the fronts last year. I absolutely love it also. The doors on mines line up just liek they did from factory. If you have the newer hinges it might be different or so Ive heard.

You will def be able to get them back on if you mark the hinges original placement before you remove them from the door and you may still have to adjust them a little bit after re-installing them to get the gaps to line up. All the hinges on mine have one factory spacer underneath the mount on the door side and I didn't need to add any shims to the passenger side door but I did need one for the bottom hinge on the driver door. I just went to a local Jeep junkyard and found two spacers and added the extra one and then the door lined up perfectly.

I will say when I did mine there was some what appeared to be copper wire mesh lining the inside of the hole that the pin goes through. In order to get my hinges to slide in and out without the assistance of a hammer I had to remove this lining. This made for just enough wiggle room for what I blame the need for the extra spacer on the driver door. Now the door swings open and functions just as it should just required minor tweaking of the alignment of the hinges and the door strikers to function just like factory.

As for the style of hinge, mine is a 97 and has the original hinges but 97 is the year they changed the design of the hinges. The build date on my 97 says may of 97 so I am guessing that the change was made mid to late in the production year. But all years after 97 definitely have the newer style. I have confirmed this on a 98, 99, and 2000.

This mod is absolutely worth it it though! Hands down one of the best mods I have done to my Jeep besides lifting!

I think the renix era dont have a factory spacer. The pin they used one mines was also weird cause it was hollow and not a solid pin like ive seen on some jeep.s I got lucky on mines though since they line up without any spacer. I didnt remove the hinges when we did the mod on mines. We jsut cut the hinges while they were still on the Jeep. I do suggest drilling out the hole on the hinges a SLIGHT bit so the doors can be removed easier. Also spraying them down with WD40 every now and then probably helps making it slide in easier.

The back doors are simple compared to the front. The fender wont be in the way when you cut the hinge. Be prepared for everyone to stare at you like you're an effin moron.

hahaha, I had this done for a while now and it is awesome i love it but like the others say definitely be prepared for the looks and comments. I have taken it one step further though and made part of the roof removable as well!

I actually noticed that on some of the Jeeps I came across while looking for spacers had those hollow pins. My had a solid pin with a head on it kinda like a nail with no point. Interesting about mine though is that the pins were upside down on both passenger side doors and right side up on the driver side doors. I had to pound out the pins and then drive them down in the right way on the passenger side door in order for this to work right. My guess to why they were upside down is they made one set of hinges and used them on both sides and just flipped them to work on the opposite side in order to streamline production a little bit.

Yeah that's pretty common i had to do it on mine as well, I think your right about the production.

be extremely careful when sliding the doors on and off. The pins on my Cherokee doors were solid and I managed to snap/sheer that pin when I thought the door was out and tilted the door away. Turns out just a little fraction of the pin was still in the hinge and it broke fairly easy. Luckily I had extra door pins :)
