Fender flare bolt strips

Is there any reason I can't just ditch the bolt strips and use 1/4" bolts and washers to hold the flares on? I trimmed the rear fenders a little, but those bolt strips are in the way now. What do you think?

Thanks

I did it without them on the front at first, but then put them back on because they help stiffen up the fender. Other than stiffening up the fender, which probably doesn't apply as much to the rear, there's no reason you can't just ditch them and drill holes and use regular nuts, bolts, and washers.

Ditch 'em. Then trim a little more...and a little more... :explosion

If you have problems just take a section of 1/8" x 3/4" flat bar and drill some holes - new strips without the stud shearing feature :dunce:

I have trimmed them, but so far I reused most of them on the different flares that I have dealt with. As for the shearing studs, I just plan to drill what's left of the stud out, tap to 10-32, and install SS bolts to make new studs that will unthread the next time I want to remove the flare. It works well. Jeff
