Wipe down the housings with a solvent to ensure the removal of any and all oil residue. Finish the housings with your method of choosing (paint, powder coat, ect.) and install all rubber light mounting grommets along with the 1” rubber grommet in the back plate.
2) Remove stock taillights by removing the three mounting bolts with a 10mm socket. 3) Lift up on the taillight to pull it free from the bottom notch and remove the light bulb sockets from the taillight housing by twisting each light bulb socket.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com />

6) Cut each wire near the light bulb sockets so as to insure enough wire length is retained to wire the new taillights. At this time strip back 1/4” to 5/16” of insulation from each wire end of the cut wires.

7) Run a 1/4” bead of silicon around the outside of the exposed holes in the quarter panels. This will seal the quarter panels from allowing moisture in once the housings are mounted.

8) Making sure that all wires are fed through the upper hole in the quarter panel, feed the wires through the 1” hole in the back plate of the Farmboy housings.

9) Slide the housings down onto the bottom bolt and align the housing with the other mounting holes. Install the original three mounting bolts.

10) Using the supplied wiring pigtails begin to wire each light by soldering and shrink tubing or using high quality butt connectors. The two wire pigtails are used for the small rectangular (model 15) lights & the larger three wire pigtail is used for the large oval (model 60) brake / tail light. Identify each wiring pigtail as to light function and extend them through their corresponding holes. Plug the pigtail connectors into their corresponding lights.

11) Check for proper function of the lights. The incandescent light kit will require no modifications to the turn signal flasher circuit. If using the LED light kit your turn signals my not want to operate properly because of the low amperage draw of the LED light. If you have a problem than try swapping the turn signal flasher motor with the hazard flasher motor located under the dash in the fuse block. This should work on pre 94 XJ’s. If this doesn’t work than you will need an electronic flasher motor. 94 and newer XJ’s will require a resister wired in line to each turn signal circuit.

12) Using silicon fill in the gap around the 1” hole that the wires are fed through to completely seal the quarter panels.

13) Install the lights into their mounting grommets and feel great in knowing you’ll never have to worry about breaking a taillight again.

Another note on the Light housings... After several phone calls & discussions with bureaucrats we finally got a hold of the head of the federal DOT in charge of vehicle lighting in Washington DC. He reviewed the light configuration, housings, & lighting we're using & confirmed that they are Federal DOT approved. So these lights should be 50 state legal. If anyone has any other concerns please let us know.

They're on their way. The next set of prototypes should be done later this week. If I've got the design & fitment down to where I'm happy than I hope to release them later on next week. This is a pic of an early unwelded, unfinished prototype, but it'll give you the basic idea of what they'll look like. Thanks for the interest.

Matt
