FALL FLING

It's coming together piece by piece.

As soon as we have our insurance certificate I can get Ryan's trail list sent over to the BLM. The BLM said they will be flexible for last minute changes if we are using EJS trails.

Slickrock have confirmed that they are very happy for us to use their place as event HQ.

I am going to try and negotiate a good deal on room rates at one of the large motels.

Help needed on the following...

I have asked Cal what to do about the raffle prizes. This is a big one that I need help on. I need someone to receive delivery of the donated prizes and bring them to Moab for the raffle.

We need a T-Shirt designed.

Dinner planning. Logistics. Cooking estimates, ingredients, cost etc.

If you want to have prizes sent to me, I can house them, and then work on getting them there.

I can store them in the attic of my garage or where my brother in laws landcruiser is. I need an exuse to kick him out.

Yes I'm alive. Sorry I have been quiet for a while. I have had a lot of stuff going on lately and I know I haven't been spending as much time as I should on the FF.

I am actually having a hard time keeping people committed to helping. It seems that most don't know if they are actually going yet.

Due to my absence, I have noticed that I have another problem. I asked Jeff if he could put up an event booking similar to the one Randy did a few years ago. Simple changes just changing the date and event name was all I needed. As NAXJA doesn't have it's own event booking system that can be reused from one event to another this has proved to be more of a problem than I expected.

I am thinking that with everyone uncertain about the economy, perhaps this event should be run a lot simpler. With only 20 or so people saying that they will be there, I think even our proposed list is going to struggle to find enough volunteer trail leaders.

A simpler event could take the following form:-

1. Concentrate on the trails, it's what everyone is really going for. A small attendance could be a blessing for those that go. Small groups get through a trail quicker and make two in a day a possibility.

2. Drop the raffle - I have not heard anything from Cal about raffle prizes yet probably because most that donated last year haven't seen that much benefit from doing so in the last 12 months. Have a photo competition instead with 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes judged by those that attended.

3. Drop the dinner - If there are 50 or less expected for dinner, making a reservation at a restaurant in town may be a better way of ensuring that everyone gets a tasty meal and the enjoyment of a social evening. Ryan doesn't think that he's going to get any help doing dinner which makes matters worse.

Let me know your thoughts. I have to take my parents to my nephew's place in Paris (France) this weekend, so I will be offline until Monday. I'm going to try and call Lobsterdmb and find out what the BOD wants to do, I have heard that everyone is getting worried.

I'm liking this idea. The only problem is the raffle. People will scream about the fact that there isn't one. I say tough. I've had people scream at me for worse things. :D
