I found a swing out tire carrier/bumper package by extreme bumpers. I was wondering if anyone on the forum has had this swingout carrier or any other of their products? Its really cheap so I'm skeptical, but it looks beefy. It comes with 2 drings and a hitch reciever. You can check out some pics of one of their carriers by following this link, www.extremebumpers.com .The pictures are of a wrangler, but the XJ carrier is much the same. Thanks for any advice.

ive got it. . . it will bolt up to a 97 or newer xj.... BUT.... it will require modifying the peg (gut it off, buy new tube, cut new hole.... weld grind... weld..... gring.... and then u will need to extend the latch like an inch and a half..... but ya..... its a decent bumper......
1 thing i will do to it soon is reinforce the mounting brackets and tie the bumper into the unibody under frame thing..... (frame rail)

the reason for this is cuz it uses the STOCK mounting brackets.... he just welds them up to his bumper..... i feel that the stock rear srossmember will bend or crack if u put a 33" tire or more and drive over rough terrain..... but ya.... simple angle iron + weld, grind, weld, paint... and ya it shouldnt bee to hard to tie it into the framerail....

oh ya.... the Drings he supplies SUCK..... im also going to be cutting them off and welding a good set of Drings on..... the problem with his is theyre Drings.. NOT shackles.... so u need a hook or another Dring shackle to tow from them... theyre also BOLTED ON..... 1 thing that i did when i got the bumper was to put larger washers on the back side of the bumper so the weight distributed would be a little greater than the locking washers that he supplied..... its a good bumper..... but it can be improved...

u want a pic??

I have seen a bumper like forsale on ebay for a long time. I was going to get one but changed my mind because of the d-rings, and mounting brackets.

The Drings remind me of what Hummers come with, they look crappy to me.I quess I could always use a real clevis shackle in the reciever for a recovery point. My real worry is the strength of the hinges for the swing out. If it can hold the weight of a 33" on a steel rim over the rough stuff then I'll probably get it just as soon as i get a few more opinions. Thanks for the Quick feedback guys.

ya.. i contacted the guy and he said they'd hold up to a 37" tire. . .

Where are you wheeling in that picture? It looks like the Death valley area to me.Thanks for your posting pics. If it will hold up to that kind of wheeling it should work fine for me.
