Extreme 4x4 [Jeep Cherokee]

as for the pre bent cage. came from a local shop, EOR. they suck.

That cage isn't a bad deal though, although the tube notching consits of milling, and the edges are crap and difficult to weld.

yes it is legal, I would not run radius arms in that environment, our rig is full traction, cage tied to all suspension, eveything reinforced, every seam on the unibody grinded and welded, trussed spooled 35-spline 9", hydro bumps on all four corners, they failed to address the shockmounts, got a pre-bent cage that ties only to the floor, etc etc. I was extremely disapointed in that show. That thing will not only be undergeared but will crack in half, soon if they try to race it. Ours has taken over 12-months to build and it is another few months until TESTING, much more to building a capable desert racer than what they covered, hopefully it will do better than the Ranger they built, but doubtfull. Anyways good to see coverage.... at least.
I agree, they're in way over their heads. I hope they do a lot more to it in future episodes to address some of these concerns, but I'm not holding my breath.

It was just kinda odd to be flipping through the channels and see them working on a Jeep pretty much identical to mine.

Most pre-'97 XJs don't have vibe isses at that height.
If they'd had a '97+, then yes, I'd have to agree with you, even if they only put on a 3" lift.

i have a 98 with 5" of lift and no t-case drop and have barely any vibration at all, far less than some i know who get vibes from a bb in pre 97's, people always tell me that but i've had the worst problems with vibes and DS angle out of pre 97 xj's

Well The reason that XJ is so nice...

Is because Ian asked a fellow XJ'er to get him one.. so why not get him the nicest I could possibly find.. I mean I want folks to look at XJ's and say DAMN those things look nice with a lift, etc..Why not Pimp our style ride on TV :)

As for a 2 door vs a 4 door.. I was having a hrad time finding one in as nice condition...

As for not showing it all.. I have no idea but I am sure it was difficult to get all the stuff they got donw on the XJ in one Aired Show.. so My guess is that they will show mopre on another episode..

as for the following:

Get him on here and have him get our input on what an XJ should be like.
Hw was on pirate, we more class than they do....

Na, on second thought, we would rather have Jessi......

I did, but I didn't go to Wyotech, so I was disqualified before I even submitted my resume'.:hang:
It's good they have you as a consultant, but it'd be better if they had a NAXJA MEMBER as one.
Anyway, I don't even know why I'm posting in this thread, other than to bash on that corporate clusterfuck of a show.

As much as it pains me to say it, I doubt either would end up coming on here - if they popped up on forums for each type of truck they worked on for the show, they wouldn't have time to do the show.

You're right about us having more class than Pirate though. Unfortunately, we're probably not extreme enough.

Say Bruiser, are they going to address gearing and speedo correction on the show with this project? Both would be critical to a desert racer, I'd think.

Rob

So I won't show up here to post in the thread...wht not, the reason I post on Pirate is because I was member there before I got this job so why not continue there.

Bruiser steered me over here to rear this thread about the build up on the show. and after reading what has been said I will "chime in" about the project.

1) Why a 4 door, although the 2 door 5 speed 2wd is the lighter of the XJ and currently the hot ticket in Jeep Speed we had trouble finding one. So we settled for the 4 door. Probably depending on the course, we might install the SYE and run the 2wd front axle, and keep the live front axle for the back up

2) Additional plans for the project. If you remeber at the end of the show I said, next time we have to deal with alot of other things before this truck is ready for the desert. In the next show we will do just that

3) Rear axle swap, SYE, and additional bracing....these are all items that will be covered later

4) Essentially Off Road, although I cannot speak of their service...I can say that the cage kit was not only a perfect fit and "Jeep Speed" legal they are the only ones who make one that follows Jeep Speed rules.

5) OT, I am sorry that you didn't get a chance to try out for the job..but I can say that I didn't go to Wyo Tech either and I was hired.

I stand corrected.
Thanks for coming to us and clearing up some things.
Too bad you guys are bound by corporate sponsorship contracts, as there's
much better parts and layouts (read: fabrication and engineering) that could be covered
and used rather than Rusty's.
For fu*k's sake, Rusty's?:nono:
Do a search for Rusty's control arm weld failure, and the like.
Leave the boltons for the Trucks! puppets.
Stick around here, you might learn something you can use in your builds.
I still think it should have been me.:gag:

don't mine OT, I peed in his cornflakes earlier.
Welcome from the MWC.
have you decided what gears to run?
I didn't see that episode, it's on the DVR, just haven't had a chance to watch it.
Who's driving the thing in jeepspeed?
what kind of lead time do you have on the show? I imagine that the next episode is already laid on tape, so why not just spill the beans.

Welcome to the boards Ian.

Oh, and Ian, you don't have to be so PC with us.
We/I can take it if we/I deserve it.
Don't you ever just want to push that chick outta the way?

That show was filmed less than 4 weeks ago. We will not shoot the second episode until we get closer to Parker.

I have not really decided what gears to run, we might just stick with stockers and concentrate on "strength" buildup. the plans are to run it in Jeep Speed 1 and then bring it back and re-build it.

I don't know Rusty was more than willing to pony up his kit for us to race on (some were not, sure install it....but don't race it!!!) so if it breaks you will see it on TV.

I have wheeled the crap out of that kit, no problems yet.

any kind of traction device?
and does that thing have an 8.25 in the back or a 35?
god help you if it's a 35, I worry about mine daily and I'm on 31's andnot racing in the desert.
