You don't get your plate issued or renewed. So uh... what can they do to you if you don't pass and don't fix it?

Well if you have ever looked at the back of the emissions sheet you will see you have to spend over a certain amount IIRC its like 400 dollars?:dunno:
Would that make the vehicle emissions exempt for the remainder of its life? Or just until next emissions test?
I think the emissions test is a bunch of crap...
Nope, there's more fine print to that. I read through all of it a while back - IIRC, you only get one waiver and it's after $500 in repairs. If it doesn't pass the next registration year, I believe they flag the vin and the only way you can get it registered is if it passes. Otherwise, I guess they expect you'll take it off the road one way or another (scrap or part out)......... Or register it outside the emissions required areas.
You can also get around the tests (at least in Texas) by installing an old diesel engine, like mine.:loveu:
I would try another test place. One that is less busy. Maybe it's not a general rule change, just some $8 per hour dudes that think they run the program.
That would make things worse, here on Larimer county we have no gas emissions, yet we still have the same opacity test that the denver area has.
Had to get my Liberty diesel emissions tested last month. Had to plug back in my FCV and MAF to get the check engine lights off(you unplug them to disable the EGR and get better mileage).
I go in for the emissions testing, 0% opacity at all testing speeds. Ya, what a worthwhile test.
