Since it's so close to you guys, I figure there are some experts around here... so:
For a typical run how long does it take? Is it a 2 day? 3 day? Can it be done over the weekend? When is it crowded there, when it's not as crowded (if ever)....

We pretty much run it in two days. How long a trip it is depends on how many days we stay in camp or just screw around on the trail. It's crowded on most late summer weekends, especially on Sat.

hmm..... I'm trying to schedule my next year's days off now and need to decide who what when and where :D To complicate things, my sis will be visiting in the summer with her family (that means sis + 3 kids + husband) and I need to take that into account as well.... so I'm wondering about hitting Rubi late spring early summer (around mid June sounds very tempting :D)

Ketchup,

With the way things go for you, I would plan a month to get across the trail for you. Because it will be hard to find you if you run a trail like you surf this forum. :D

if you can arrange the time mid-week than you would be better off. As for early spring, you'll need to watch weather conditions. it's not uncommon to still have snow on the trail in May, sometimes even into June.

u could run the trial in a day if u wanted even on a busy weekend? the trail isn't too bad. but it is better to go on the weekend cuz then u get to show off ur rig and look at everyone elses!!!

My personal record is 9 hours, backwards, with just one locker and 31 inch tires.

I bet I could do it in 5 to 6 with no traffic.

Who's going to be guarding the internet if Ketchup AND Sequoia come up for the trip?

LOL.... I don't know if I can convince Sequoia to run it this year :D I think that if he was going to show up, then he'd be my coopilot :D

So from what I gather, 2 days should be plenty, and then one day to get there and one to come back :D

Now, WW you might want to plan on a extra day to drive around in a few circles. Might want to get a leader who knows his way! :D

4 hours. That's hauling a$$. I've timed on trail time at just over 7 hours for me, but that was just driving time over a couple days not straight thru.

Yeah, but that was with the bling rig.

Travel time decreases inversely with the amount of body damage you have.

Now with Caltrans it could be even more fun! It would take me longer though because I would be playing around too much!

I'll have to watch when WW is going we could go watch! :D
You in?

I don't guard the whole Internet, just little portions :)

Sadly though, I won't be able to make it to the big Rubi-run, as I have to save my vacation time for other stuff (and some for Moab too!). And damn, I really wanted to bragging rights to having been out with the WCGC!

ive only been from loon to buck island and back with 2 xj's, 3", 31's and both open diffs. none of us had any rubi experience. just a map and gps.
how is the rest of the trail compared to that section? i dont know if we could make it the way we are.

If you turned around at Buck you missed "Big Sluice box" and "Cadillac Hill", both have some good pucker spots.
Some of the best areas to see are there, like the Rubicon springs Bridge and the Observation Point.
The last 3 to 5 miles out to Tahoe after Observation Point is nothing, kind of dull and you can't go too fast.
