Economic stimulus naysaysers!

....and it is nearing holiday season, so Amazon should be earning more. Especially as more people want to save money by shopping online....

I can't wait for Windows 7. Vista is the biggest POS since Windows 98/ME. I wish the DoD would quit pushing for it to be installed on all of our computers at work....

My 6 week old laptop has Vista with SP1, and it runs flawlessly (but it is brand new). I find that the best time to upgrade windows op systems is just when the new one comes out, but get the old one not the new one. I have heard great things about Win 7 beta, but I don't want to deal with any lack of drivers for stuff like my old printers, so I will stick with what is working (if ain't broke don't fix it!).

Derailment...

No driver issues so far, excellent interface, no stability issues as of yet and 64 bit compatible. My 4 year old can navigate to his movies and play whatever he feels like watching.

Now Hughesnet on the other hand sucks gigantic balls. Every time you call for an issue it's the router's fault and they don't work on routers...from India. I can't surf between 11am and 8pm weekdays and saturdays are slower than dialup.

Derailment over.

Exactly - Vista doesn't do anything that WinXP can't do, other than suck up massive amounts of system resources, and be a general pain in the ass anytime you want to do anything with it (i.e., always asking for permission, security settings, etc). And yes, any brand new machine had better work flawlessly!!!

Is Hughesnet that satellite ISP?

I would love to, unfortunately, I don't always have control of the machines I'm supposed to be controlling. Centralized management sucks - especially when I know I'm a better IT tech than the dumbass contractors Langley AFB hired to work at the I-NOSC.

By the way Microsoft stock was up 10% and Amazon was up 26% today, in one day on positive earnings news, and projected increases in revenue, projections for the 4th quarter.
How much was the USD down vs. various other currencies over the same time period? I have no idea if it balances out, but I know we've been taking a pounding due to the recession and also because various other large countries are making noise about not trading oil in USD anymore. Taking the world off the "black gold standard" will cause issues for the USD IMO.

You can track the dollar versus other currencies 24/7 here:

The dollar went way up during the crisis and recently bottomed late last week at a value higher than it was before the crisis started.

Right now the dollar is rallying again, has been since it bottomed late last week, and oil, gold and stocks are getting crushed as the dollar bounces back up.

Here is the home page where you can track the major stock indexes, gold, oil, natural gas, the dollar and commodities.

Tell that to the 30 Million Americans that can't find full-time work to support their needs. I'm buying Christmas presents, to help some families who've lost their jobs, and I'm giving thanks that I still have mine.

Obama doesn't need to hold a "job summit"..... ask the small business owners what needs to be done to stimulate the economy..... cut taxes, kick out the illegals, close the borders, enforce the laws and get our of our way !

Long-term unemployment remains gloomy. Still, the number of jobs lost -- even with the lower revisions -- since the start of 2008 is 7.2 million. And that only captures the net loss of jobs, and doesn't give a full picture of the large pool of those without work or income.

The report showed 15.4 million Americans are now unemployed and seeking work, although that's down 325,000 from the October reading. Another 6 million want jobs but are not counted as part of the labor force because they have stopped looking.

Add to that group the 9.2 million who have only found part-time work when they want full-time jobs or have had their hours cut as a result of the downturn, and that brings to 30.6 million Americans who are not able to find the full-time job they want or need.

The long-term unemployment problem was worse in November than at any time in the 61 years those records have been kept. A record 5.9 million people have been out of work for more than 6 months, as the average length of time those with work have been without a job rose to 28.5 weeks.

I'd love to go out and stimulate the economy by spending money but since I haven't had a job since June I don't think I will.
Heck, I had to use my credit card for the first time in my life just to buy food a couple weeks ago. I guess I've been spending beyond my means...

Living the Socialism dream in CA........not working out so good. 15% unemployment?

Sorry you're reaping the rewards of the anti-Capitolism movement......you should join a union, so you could be unemployed and still have to pay your dues.........

The "economy" as measured in stock values, etc. has recovered. The problem is that this has been done with the short term method of cutting costs. Lay off people and don't hire replacements, decrease inventory and don't restock, etc. Things are still a long way off from companies rehiring. 10-15 percent unemployment doesn't sound like much until you are one of the 10-15%. And MANY people are still on 4 day work weeks (with a 20% pay cut to go along). Even people who have not been cut are now too paranoid to spend money, which would get more of us re-employed and to capacity.

If you are still making as much as you did in 2007 and 2008, re-enter the consumer world and help jump start some more jobs. Buy a new car!!!!!!
