Durango Leafs on an XJ?

I heard of some people putting Durango leaf spring on XJ but I didn't catch any more than that. I'm assuming that it gives some lift but I don't know. Fill me in guys.

huh?

I thought a leafspring is a leafspring. Over or under shouldn't matter.

Why do the CJ guys do "spring over conversions"???

I think Durango leafs are quite a bit longer, but not sure. Don't know if it would work or not.

I thought that durangos were quarter ellipticals. That would require some crazy fabbing.

The SPOBI in this thread is mind blowing.

First off, Dakota springs are commonly used to build lifted leaf packs for XJ's. I don't see why a Durango spring wouldn't work though.

Durango's are not 1/4 elliptical. The new ones use coils w/ locating arms and a watts linkage, but the old ones are spring under.

Springover vs springunder doesn't matter in this case as far as affecting the longevity of the springs since they are only being used as add a leaves anyway. You can't make a reasonable comparison between the two since there are more variables changing in this application than just axle on top or bottom.

Quarter eliptical? sagging? where am I..

Spring under springs are used to add lift, as they are arched more than spring over leaves. The earlier dakota leaves are used because they are spring under, after 97 the dakotas went to spring over, but the Durangos are spring under. I believe they have the 2.5" wide springs, so yes they would work. The will be long, but can be cut down. I would guess they are going to be alot stiffer than dakota or S-10 leaves as they are off a 4500lb vehicle...

My appologies for SPOBI...never been under a durango. Shouldn't have opened my mouth.
