dumb question

Ok so im looking to do a axle swap and this guy claims to have a d44 14bolt combo but says they came from a late 70's f250. I thought ford either used dana 60's or the 9" being a 250 id expect a d60.

here are the so-so pics i have. Probably go look at it this weekened

So would it be a 14bolt or a d60?
(i dont need a 14bolt way to much beef for me)

you can NEVER have too much beef. and im usless at the moment because i cant tell what the rear axle is other than its not a 9 in

yes that is a FF14B that appears to have been converted to disc
Definitely not factory Ford, you can just make out the removable pinion carrier'

Also a 44 front but thats easy

It looks like a 14 bolt to me. GM used the 14 bolt, The 1970's Ford F-250's used the Dana 60.

He is in Hartsville Sc i just dont know if i will need a 14bolt those things are HEAVY. I was more looking to do either a 44/9 full width or a 44/60 full width and run a max of like 37"s.

ixnay on the ff14b if your just gonna run 37's... the front d44 is the limiting factor anyway... i would run a 44/9 combo if i was to run 37's in your situation.... the clearance on the 14b isn't bad and can be shaved but the weight is the killer, and rear 60's are junk IMO

the 9 will be easy... they are more common, finding the 44 without the cast wedges is the kicker

Just fyi the pull apart here in Charlotte gets picked over very well. Your lucky to find a 44 or even skids in good condition.

Ya he is right they are Picked over with a microscope. Ive been to that one and they didnt have any front 44's and i dont think i saw one complete 9. The problem is most of the ones i see have that twin traction junk. I might try to head out into lancaster looking. Im in fort mill and ive checked Millers salvage, the u-pull it in rock hill, carolina salvage, u-pull it charlotte. If i cant find one i might end up doin a 60/60 combo
