Dually MJ?

There's a black one I occasionally see running around with exactly the same body kit on it. In all honesty, though, this is only the second one I've ever seen. Must've been a seriously rare option, but looks cool.

Different and neat, but I don't see what good a dual option has on such a light duty rig.

Light duty? the MJ has a full boxes and 2" larger than the XJ. it has almost twice the bracing of the one ton toyota dually and 3" bigger frame than the nissan dually.....dont let anyoen fool you the MJ in standard from has the same paylaod or more than full sized trucks......it is the original midsized truck

I'm just saying it's a long way from a domestic 1 ton. As are the claimed toy and nissan. That's what I mean by light duty.

The goose neck trailers alone (empty) that I have pulled with a one ton.... I think a toy or nissan would barely pull them. And I'd be scared to death to try and stop one.

Ii haul 2900 lbs in the bed of my mj 5 times a week.........every week........I have hauled cherokees across 3 states on a flatbed behind it........ever hear of trailer brakes? geared correctly it would easly haul 2 cherokees on a gooseneck,

I'm here same as you I like Jeeps. What are the specs on the little dually MJ. Like GVWR and towing capacity?

Payload for a stock, standard MJ was 1475 pounds. That makes it a 3/4-ton truck. The optional "big ton" or "metric tonne" package (longbeds only) had a payload rating of 2,200 pounds. That's MORE than an American ton, and the only real differences between that and the standard 3/4-ton version is heavier springs and a Dana 44 rear axle instead of a Dana 35. The frames of any MJ are good for a ton.

i want.

Has anyone ever used a dually rear for off roading and are there advantages or disadvantages? Not that I could ever afford to do it but was just playing with the idea of a dual xj.

Benefit: More traction at rear axle.
NOT Benefit: Wide as all hell.

Thank you, no.

I had no idea this was an OEM option... I've seen the dual wheel adapters in JC Whitney and just thought this was a nice conversion job, but man what a cool truck if it is original!

This would not be a good wheeler but a kickazz tow rig.........5th wheel play trailer?................HHHMMMMMMMMM

MJ's can be built to do so many things, not everything has to be wheeled. My '89 Eliminator will be reincarnated as some sort of race truck.

I agree. I am glad that I don't have the room for it otherwise I'd be damn tempted to buy it just for the oddball factor.

was this with an Auto. im in the process of finding the lightess possible trailer so i can haul my tj behind the comanche.

just wondering if the auto can with stand pulling the mountains to tellico.

my truck has 4.56's on 33's..

it pulled a cherokee from denver to flagstaff without any issues.......albuquerque hill was not fum but it never is...........9 miles of over 7* grade.. The key is to add a good fan driven oil cooler........with adjustable stat.......mine is set at 190*

an auto Mj is rated at 5k pounds towing. That's stock of course. I believe that XJNation is totally correct, the key is keeping the trans fluid cool. If you're going to do it I would add a temp guage and an aux cooler.
