Driving Lights - High Beam Wire

Where is the easist place to tap into the high beam wire for the purpose of hooking up driving lights?

And before anyone says it, I have already searched and I read all 49 posts that contain the terms "high," "beam," and "wire." While all 49 posts were very interesting in their own right, not a single one of them answers this very basic question.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated....

hi..i tapped in at the drivers frt high beam socket..when i use my hi beams i also have the hella drivin lamp hooked up..all i have to do is flip the switch and my driven lamps work with my hi beams only..hope this helps..aloha stan

I pulled the headlight out last night (very late) and could not get my tester to work! Did you tap onto the wire behind the socket or onto the socket itself?

I wouldnt try to drive an extra set of lights with the high beam wire, it is barely large enough to handle the stock headlights. If you are using it only to power a relay which will turn on the driving lights then go for it.

Easiest spot depends on wether or not you are using a stock airbox or not. Find the wire, trace it to a convient spot, and tap into it correctly if you feel you must ( I tend to leave intact wires intact for the sake of reilability.)

I used the high beam wire to turn on a relay for my driving lights years ago. It has been working fine since '98 when I did it. I tapped into the wire just behind the headlight plug. I used a razor knife to carefully strip a small section of the wire, wrapped the tap wire onto the exposed section and then soldered it. Then sealed it up good. I live in WI where they salt the heck out of the roads and corrosion is a big problem.

As mentioned above only use the tap from the high beam to turn on the relay. Use a fused wire directly from the battery to the N.O. relay contact and then to the driving lights.

P.S. If you run the wire from the high beam wire to a switch inside the cab and then to the relay you can choose whether to have the driving lights on or off. I choose not to do that as they are hooked to the high beams but I thought I'd mention it as an option.

I tapped a power lead from the oem switch for the LED to a relay so my driving lights work with high and low beam

I am using a switch and a relay. The switch has connections to the high beam lead, a relay and a ground. The relay is powered from the battery.

I understand the theory and all of the different options. I am just looking for the easiest place to tap into the high beam.

If I could find the wire, I wouldn't be asking the question . Can you be a little more descriptive?

Remove the airbox when looking for the wire, it will make things easier!

Easy way, take your meter and get under the dash, find the hi beam signal wire that the high beam switch uses. Tap into that, go thru the hella switch then out thru the firewall and the fender mounted relay. Connect that side to the relay coil connection, the other end to ground.
Then wire the power side of the relay to the PDC where the battery goes in then the other side to the lights. Basically the same as the fog light setup only different signal wire to energize the relay. If you use the hella kit relay it already has the fuse biuilt in.

Removing the air box did the trick. I was able to find the wire and tap in at that point. Thanks for all of the advice.
