Driver fuse panel melt down

The cigarette lighter shorted and caused the fuse holder at the driver kick panel to melt down. I was in the XJ and was able to disconnect the battery and prevent a major catastrophe. I have not yet dismantled anything, but I know for sure the fuse holder itself and associated wiring need to be replaced. I looked online at the usual suspects but see no sign of a replacement for sale. Would there be one available from someone who is parting out their XJ?

This is a 1996-year model so I'm not sure if it is compatible with any other years.

Ouch.

I can still find the occasional XJ in my local junkyards. If you get it apart and can post up good pics I can keep an eye out for parts.

I have a 95 that is getting parted out, not sure if it will work on a 96. In Maryland.

Thanks guys.

I am not sure if the 1995-year model will work on the 1996. I do know that a lot of the wiring and connectors are different. Exactly what are different I do not know. What I do know is that a lot of the color code and connectors are different. Remember, the '96-year model have some parts carried over from the earlier models and some from the 1997 onwards thrown in/on for good measure.

There are a few 1996 XJ's in 2 local pic a part. I will pay them a visit this weekend.

I am in need of a tool pin tool to remove wire/fuse terminal from the fuse box in the driver side foot well. I manage to score a used fuse holder from a pick and pull yard. Now I deed to swap wires between the two units.

There are small tabs on either side of the terminal that need to get pressed inward to slide them out the back. One of these https://www.amazon.com/Depinning-El...-Automotive/dp/B0922GF9W8/137-6170536-0341610 might do the trick.

When I refurbished my panel, I just pushed the whole terminal out with a thin screwdriver and a little force, which damaged the pins. That wasn't an issue since I was replacing the terminals. Some of the terminals are on a strip of 3-4 terminals in a row. Here's a link to a thread with replacement part numbers for the terminals and a picture of what the pins look like. https://naxja.org/threads/best-fuse-slot-repair-option.1142103/
