I was working on my 3 link tonight and I put piece of tube that was very hot from welding on a piece of Delrin... one little waft of the smoke that came off and my eyes and lungs were burning for a good 10 minutes, at one point I thought I was gonna pass out cause I couldn't breathe....

so kids; don't try this at home

what is that?

ive seen you mention it a few times - what is Delrin exactly?

Edit: and google to the rescue!!

ok - so now my question is what are you using it for?
the more generic name is acetal, Delrin is the copyrighted name (3M I think): acetal:delrin::cola:coke

It's basically just a plastic.

I'm using it for the frame side of my wishbone as the bushings. Since a wishbone needs no misalignment, just straight up/down movement, a very stiff bushing of Delrin will work.

When I was on a squad we had two people die, mother and daughter, in their house, mixed clorox and a toilet bowl cleaner. Husband was on a business trip and found them when he got home 4 days later...

Had that almost happen to me.

Put scouring powder in the toilet bowl, and then poured some clorox in on top of it.

Now I know why I had flashbacks when I went into the gas chamber in the Army.

One day the wife complained that we were out of toilet bowl cleaner. So, rather than run to the store I went into the laundry and grabbed a bottle of liquid landry detergent and a bottle of bleach. I come walking back through the house and she says what are you going to do? I say, I'm going to dump these in the toilet bowl. She says, won't that make some kind of gas, or something?

hmm, yeah. Think about it :laugh3:

I like spraying lots of HCl based mineral deposits cleaner around with the bathroom door shut. I've often wondered if I could get the Hyrogen concentration high enough to support combustion. Recently she made me buy some HCl based toilet bowl cleaner to get rid of the ring-around-the-pot. Don't go mixin' that shait with anything else (and remember, always add acid).

Sometimes she is so determined to get rid of a stain she'll buy 3 or 4 different brands that all have the same active ingredients. When she goes after a stain I make sure I've got a clear path to the door. You never know what she'll put together.

Best way to get rid of a stain like that use some coke a cola or pepsi and let it soak or just go at with some 400 grid wet/dry sandpaper. No, the sandpaper won't hurt the finish.

Only if you read them.

They really should put reading back in the curriculum one of these days.

In boot camp (Marine Corps) they made us go through the gas chamber. While in we had to lift our masks, then clear em. Then do it for longer. Then take em all the way off, don and clear in 9 seconds. If we were actually in a contaminated environment, I'd die. I couldn't figure out how to get that damn mask on so I did what I had to and opened my eyes, took a good breath and put it on. Never had such clear sinuses in my life! :D

Been there, done that.

Someone thought it would be funny to put a large tree with low hanging branches about 10 yards outside the chamber exit.

People would come out flapping and yaking, and get closelined by the tree.

Made the NCOs laugh rather hard.

Was that at Ft. Jackson? Or did they do that everywhere? JIM.

MCRD San Diego did their Gas Chamber in Camp Pendleton but there was a big ol' tree in just about the same spot. I've heard the Parris Island School for Girls had one as well.

It seems to be more of a recruit training deal; no chamber that I went to for annual requal ever had a tree out the door. Then again, none of the NBC guys were quite as sadistic as Sgt Tarazon...

Sounds like Sgt. Godbout.

On subs we'd be out several months and regular milk and eggs only last about a month and a half. At that point we switched to sterlized and/or powdered milk and powerderd eggs. The whole radio gang was in the shack, door closed and locked while we shredded stuff and secured gear, we'd just come back into port that morning to pearl. The squadron commander and his staff came out with the harbor pilot and were having an impromptu meeting outside the shack when we finished and slid the armored door back, we were used to the constant green haze, kinda funny watching a bunch of 05's, 6's and even a couple of 7's gagging as they headed topside like someone ordered abandon ship...

I remember laughing my ass off in our gas chamber. I did exactly as you described, but the Army had taught us how to properly work our equipment. ;) When I had to take my mask completely off my Drill SGT booted me in my ass. I recited name, rank, and serial...then broke into 'I'm a Little Teapot', complete with dance motions. I laughed and walked out. Cleared my sinuses, but I was able to function just fine in there. :D I walked out and got to laugh at everyone gagging and puking. There's a great photo of me in our 'yearbook' grinning a 'Jack Nicholson in The Shining' grin at the camera. :D

The wife bought a pumic stone (actually a commercial product of foamed glass, although real pumic is also on the shelves). The diameter of the bubbles in the foamed glass was too course so I chipped some pieces into a mortar and ground it down with a pestle to polishing grade. Mixed that into some toothpaste and that took the mineral deposits off and polished the porcelin, too. It was a good thing :laugh3:
