DIY Canoe Trailer

I have been offered a 18' Aluminum Canoe. Yea! ...But trailers run about $1000 for them, and don't offer additional storage.

What are thoughts on just throwing together a bunch of 2x2's of steel and making a little storage bed and mount and putting it on top of a nice 3,500 lb axle with 1750 springs for some overkill with some 5x4.5's for the jeep tire consistency.

Maybe even separate toungues for when the canoe isn't coming along.

I just strap mine to the roof rack upside-down, works just fine!

I'd really like to expand my vacation capability with a little camping/canoe trailer at the same time. 2 mountain bikes and a cooler just about consumes the entire interior.
