Dino's 99XJ build thread... It begins!

sweet, thanks man! I was so freaking pissed yesterday, every write-up on a 4.88 and lower had to remove the carrier, but with a 3.55 I was sure it was going to slide right passed it.. no such luck.

got my brakes bled finally, a few days of PB blaster and they came loose without messing up the screw, bought new ones but didn't have to use them.

Finished up the rear section with some pre 97 end caps, like that look.

still have to finish up the front Spartan, but will save that for another day. Just glad the Jeep is ready to drive around and wheel a bit!

until next time..

I'd personally just pull the shafts out and do the front locker the right way. It's not a C-clip axle so there really isn't any reason to grind the gears beyond laziness. I've ground them down on 8.25 and 8.8 axles but there isn't much way around that, you can't get the c-clips in w/o removing the cross pin.

It is only one tooth and only about 1/32 to 1/16 of the tip of that tooth, it is literally barely touching it. I don't think it is enough to mess with pulling the shafts for if I don't have too. I am suprised it is even hitting after all the write-ups I read on it not being an issue on a 3.55 ratio.

front bumper time

So decided to work on the front bumper last night, got a bunch done.

took off the factory set-up and removed the fog lights and vacuum canister, put the canister in the engine compartment and the fogs will end up as rock lights I think at this point, have an idea where I want them to go.

could not believe how easyt he bumper screws came out, hardly any force at all! took the tiem and added some black paint to the bumper holders to cover up the scratches and help a little to prevent future rust potential.

more to follow, I will decide on the final placement for the lights and the horns.

unitl then...

I've only ever needed my SnapOn 3/8 cordless impact, and extension, and a wobble socket. I think maybe once I had to bring out the 1/2" drive.

When you've spent 12yrs being a professional mechanic you need those fancy tools. Of course being 29 w/ a bad back, bad knees, bad shoulders, and the beginnings of carpal tunnel does bring the suck. Maybe I should've chosen a different profession?

And yeah, I've got plenty of craftsman, harbor freight, and stanley tools still going strong after years. As they break/wear out then I replace them with Matco or Snap On.

No way man, Craftsman makes a plety good tool. All my chrome sockets and wrenches are Craftsman. The screw drivers sucked so they're Snap On now. Ratchets were very nice and lasted for a long time but eventually failed and were replaced with SnapOn.

Husky actually makes some pretty decent tools too.

Yeah, the primary reason I even get SnapOn stuff these days is because of the convienance factor. The tools are definitely a better quality, but they're expensive. The fact that I can make interest free payments on the truck and he comes to my work every week makes it nice though.
