Diff. Question and Package Question

Would any Jeep dealer have a build sheet or be able to get one? I got mine used at a smaller dealership, they had no more info than I have now.

all you need is the vin number to get a build sheet.

i have never heard of an 8.25 with ABS on an xj. you need to verify if you have ABS.

maybe the axle was changed out to 8.25 and abs was disabled.

OK lol easiest way for me to find out, if anyone reading this has ABS does it the light turn on when you start the vehicle? I know that they used the same dashes, I should clarify that I can see it has a yellow lense, and I assumed that they would have the cut out but no lense if it wasn't equipped. But anyways, if it is supposed to turn on when you turn the key, mine doesnt. This should be the easiest way to find out if I have it or not.

Also, I doubt that it has a axle change it's a 98 with only 100k on it, bought it used from an old man, etc.

I have a 99 xj and yes the abs light does come on when you turn the key on. I have a factory tow pakage also and yes if you have ABS the only differential you can have is the dana 35 even if you have a tow package. I'll guarantee you have the Chrysler 8.25 axle with no ABS and no factory tow package. To verify and to put your mind at ease write down your VIN #, pick up the phone and call your local Jeep dealer, ask for the parts department, give them your VIN # and they will look up on the computer and tell you eveything you want to know like axle, locker or not, ABS or not etc.

OK, my light doesnt come on ever, so that puts me at ease, thanks for all the help everyone. I really don't know why I need to know this to order a lift, but it's good to know anyways.

Ok makes perfect sense, someone mentioned they have different axle diameters earlier, I just didn't catch it till now lol.

He also linked to some pictures so you can compare axles. All this talk about "does the light come on" or "what does the dealer say" can be readily resolved just by looking at the pictures....

my '98 has a sticker on the pass. side axle tube near the brake drum, that says JEEP 8.25 3.55 OPEN, look and see if yours has the same.

The best way to determine the presence of ABS is to look under the hood for the pump that is plumbed into the master cylinder and proportioning valve.
