Did Imogene Turn One Way?

Planning my month long trip for this fall, and thought I'd remembered hearing that it was under consideration for Imogene to turn one way. I was wanting to take it from Ouray into Telluride. Anyone have that information? Thanks so much-

As of last fall it was not one way. We passed quite a few vehicles comming the other direction. There are a couple of sections that can require a significant amount of backing. We just always run if starting from Ouray, over Black Bear, then back on Imogene. Black Bear has a section that is one way only.

Thanks, was trying to make the trails be on our way to Moab. From Ouray-Telluride- then catch 145 then 46 then 191 into Moab.

From Ouray to Telluride you can take either Black Bear or Imogene. They're both spectacular, but BB has a little more "pucker factor". :laugh3:
If you're talking about the NAXJA Moab run in October, there's a VERY good chance that both of these trails would be closed by then. They are usually closed down from snow by Labor Day.
Something to keep in mind...

thanks a lot, and yes, going with NAXJA in Oct. But have a month long trip planned with that being the conclusion. I was wondering about closures so thanks a lot. If need be we'll just take the highway. HOw bout Ophir? Will most of the trails be closed by then, or just the very high ones like Imogene? Well I guess they are all quite elevated. ANy input is greatly appreciated. Had planned to hit Ouray Sept 12th-14th. Thanks

I drove Ophir with my 96 Ford Exploder with the running boards. The locals use it as a shortcut in their cars. That isn't saying that it isn't pretty, but it is a very mild road.

It just all depends on the weather. Here's a site to keep an eye on...Ouray
There's a link about 1/2 way down the page that has the road conditions.
DON'T shy away from Ouray in September. Even if some of the trails are closed, the rest of the scenery is WELL worth the drive!

Thanks so much for the info. I still plan on going through Ouray, but may need to reschedule how much time we have planned there. Do you think we can keep busy for 3 days? So far, the trails I've mentioned you said are very likely to be closed. HOw bout ones like Engineer, Corkscrew, Calfornia Gulch, Hurricane Pass, and Poughkeepsie? Any recommendations for ones around this area?

I could keep busy in Ouray for weeks, but that's one of my favorite places on the planet! :laugh3:
The Alpine Loop is awesome if it's open. You can usually get to Yankee Boy Basin later in the year. There's also hot springs and lots of other stuff to do there.

I too have been to Ouray, and love it as well. But I've been at the very end of June, with all the trails just opening up. I think I'll run into the opposite problem this year, all the trails just closing up. Just trying to figure out how much time I should be able to dedicate to wheelin' in the area this late in the year. Thanks for all your help BillR- I really appreciate it. Snow is something I'm not used to down here in Texas :D

Just had a brainstorm :speepin: - with the help of my Jeepin' buddy going with me on this trip. We had planned on taking a trail starting by the Rio Grande Resivoir outside of Creed, then meeting up with Stony into Silverton. Do you think this will be possible at this time of year? I sure hope so, don't want to take the long highway all the way around. Thanks again-

I'm not familar with that trail; maybe one of the local boys will chime in. It sure sounds pretty, though.
