basically just hollow out the inside of the light, cut the holes where you want the lights and wire 'em up. i use some krylon fusion to paint them. to do the cutting i used a dremel and a hole saw.
That seems to defeat the purpose if you ask me. The reason to have steel taillight boxes is so you don't have to keep replacing them every time you slide into something. IMHO its purely aesthetics and has zero functionality

iv got the TC skid and the gas tank skid too. iv beat mine pretty hard and usually i just need to clean it and dust it with some black spray paint and it looks good as new.
id like to do some of these lights on my rigs but they are kinday out of my misc. budget funding lol
I understand that they are very pricey but if you bust one of yours then you have get another taillight and and re-do all the time and effort you put into them. But I guess to each their own.
