Denver shooting.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected in this tragedy. Hopefully any members on here and their families are okay. What a crazy world we live in.

Freakin horrible. What are the laws in Denver regarding concealed weapon carry? During the massacre, a trained individual could have assisted in taking him down. Double tap.

Full CCW laws, so if someone was carrying they could have done something, but the theater was a "Gun Free Zone". Dude must have missed the sign since he came in the back door.

thoughts and prayers from the midwest...bad deal out there.

gunman was fully armed with a bullet proof vest...anyone who would have been carrying wouldn't have stood a chance.

problem is most folks with a ccl know how to handle a gun but carry those little pocket guns ,and can;t hit anything ,it would be a another tradegy in a dark theater .

I was in awe when I read this this morning. Seriously, what is wrong with people? It is more evidence of why "gun free zones" etc, just don't make sense and "gun control" is a joke. Bad guys will always get guns, why should we disarm the good ones? Sure it was a dark theatre, but if there were a few people carrying, this could have gone a much different (less tragic route). I hope everyone and theirs on NAXJA is safe. My thoughts are with all those affected.

Eyewitnesses reported that a baby was shot at point blank range.
The University Hospital confirmed the youngest patient from the shooting is three months old. "

WTF.....

I've been puzzling over my coffee on this tragedy this morning, and trying to figure out the Colorado demographic question -- Colorado is roughly 75% non-natvies, and those folks come from literally all over the nation from a multitude of different backgrounds, ethnicities, income brackets, etc. Colorado is roughly 50/50 democrat/republican, and generally neither party is particularly radical (as say opposed to California democrats, or southern republicans)... just about as "purple" a state as is possible. Colorado is routinely ranked as one of the fittest and healthiest populations in the nation, both mentally and physically. Colorado's public school system -- while I am not a fan -- is generally ranked very near the top nationwide in both performance and college admission, though underfunded compared to other underperforming states...

Yet, this marks at least the 3rd mass random shooting in Colorado in less than 15 years (Columbine, Baily...) -- why Colorado? I don't have an answer, other than glib ones, I'm really curious...

Arguments can certainly be made regarding whether armed movie goers would have prevented this scope of killing -- and I am always a believer that an armed society is a polite society -- but Jim is right that it is a difficult shooting scenario for all but the best trained and further tragedy could have ensued, plus the nutbag was prepared and armored, making it that much more difficult. Crazys are out there no matter what, but man it sucks to continue to be so close to the crazyness...

I agree with the die fighting stance. I may not kill him. But a few rounds in the head is really gonna get your attention and.quickly. even if just slowing him down for a few seconds someone else could have lived. That's a success as far as im concerned.
The big fail is that he is arrested. he should be beyond dead.

I wonder if he will get a life sentence or death penalty when sentenced? IMO he should be put to death. Why should we as a society who are responsible/sane taxpayers pay to keep him alive for 50+ years? He is only 24.

I Vote Death Penalty!

Like xj-grin said why Colorado? I wish I knew the answer here. Columbine, Baily, New Life Church and now this. Way to many mass shootings. People always ask me why I carry and they think I am just paranoid. Well this is why. I won't go down without a fight. I will give up my belonging's and money but I will not give up my life.

Seriously, why Colorado? Every time I've visited, the people are fantastic, the scenery is amazing, and I just love the atmosphere. I've been trying to convince the wife to consider moving there for a while. I don't think it'll happen after this.

This is messed up.

While I do think this guy will get a death sentence, I don't get any comfort from it knowing that we will be paying for him for the next 20 years in prison.

Does anyone here remember Nathan Dunlap? This December will mark the 19th anniversary of his crime. Thankfully, his last appeal was denied again.

Maybe this year Colorado will step up and put to death someone on death row.

Yeah, I stated in another thread that it surprises me with the number of CCW permits in Colorado..... I still can't believe we don't see more self defense/return fire. Up until a couple years ago, we were seeing quite a rise in home invasions, but I believe that the big increase in CCW permits and the media spotlight it created a while back has crooks thinking twice about barging into a home when there's any chance people are home.

Just think if there had been just 3 law abiding citizens carrying concealed in that theater that could have engaged the shooter...... I believe it would have definitely lessened the end result of injuries/death.

A bullet proof vest isn't going to keep a shooter shooting like a force field protecting him. 3 pistols sending rounds his way would have hit his arms, lower torso, legs, head.... it would have forced the barrel of his weapon down at a minimum.... if not a retreat.

I have little doubt that he had remotely considered coming up against armed resistance.... movie theaters are potentially one of those locations where carrying concealed is prohibited. The fact that he had his car parked right near the exit of the theater room he invaded suggests he expected to get away too.

I think this asshat actually may have thought he'd be able get away to sit back and watch the carnage he created afterwards..... When the cops took him down, he clearly obeyed their commands. If he were committed, he would have taken himself out or raised his gun...... Sadly he did not, so we'll all be paying for his care and custody for a very long time.

But yeah....... "Why Colorado?" is a very good question....... :dunno:

Gonna have to disagree with you on that, Craig. He also had a gas mask on, those aren't bulletproof. I carry in the theater everytime I go.

I agree, I loved visiting Colorado so much that i've considered the possibility of moving there if things ever go south at work.

I'm going to have to disagree on the stance of he should have been killed / killed himself after the fact (I am in no way implying that I wouldn't support his killing during the attack). I'm glad he was taken into custody just so we have a rare look into the mind of one of these folks.

I find the instant "but what about CCW!" argument every bit as annoying at the "see, we told you guns kill!" argument that things thing bring up. Unless you were there you don't really know the dynamics of the situation, I know that if I were carrying I would not draw and fire unless I knew my target and what is beyond him. There's a big difference between the paper ten ring and a human target that's firing in your direction.
