Definitions please......

Not trying to be a jackass, but all the information you could ever want can be found by searching...

That said....Backspace = distance from wheel mounting surface on wheel to the back side of the wheel, aka less backspacing means tires stick out more.

A locker is either manual or automatic depending on what kind you get, it will lock your differential so that your tires always spin at the same rate, this way you don't have one tire spin while the other isn't moving, such as when on is up in the air and the other is on the ground.

A spool is simply a locker that never unlocks.

I gotta go with the Admiral here - do what I did at first. Take some time, pillage around, and READ.

You see, not only will you pick up a LOT of information that way, you will also get a "feel" for the group (although recent additions may make that a little inaccurate, but you will be close) and you might also get some idea for what you want to do to your rig.

If you browse around and don't find what you want to know, then by all means ask - we may not have gone over it recently... Chances are most major topics are beaten pretty soundly about once per month - some more, some less.

It's not that we don't want to help, but we get a little sore when someone comes along and asks the obvious - something we just finished putting to rest (again!) and hoped would stay down for a while...

Anyhow, welcome aboard, and I hope we can help you soon!

I don't know that a search would give the definitions, just a discussion of the topic. I think he did exactly the right thing by asking. I think it's been a long time since any post described what a locker or spool actually is. Now, if you want to learn about the pros and cons of running a locker or spool, a search would come up with some good information.

I think GOATMAN has the feel of my position. I have been reading alot and have gotten the definitions of alot of stuff by doing so. The things I ask are things that keep coming up in topics that I read about that I still cant figure out what they are. I appreciate everyones input!!

I notice the issues that keep coming up and I dont try to bring up sore spots, I just read and try to figure out whon knows what they're talking about and learn! As I am sure many of you like me, your rig is your DD, so I cant let it sit up on jack stands for a week working on it. THese forums are great and I hope to meet many of you in the Pa area.

You're in the North Atlantic Chapter area and many of our members are in eastern PA and NJ, so be sure to hang out on the NAC forum. Don't forget that NACFest 2004 is coming up in mid-June at Paragon in Hazleton, PA.

See you there if not before.

these events are great for learning, even if you're bringing a stocker, you can look and ask 'what's that thing?' and someone will always beable to answer. We all like talking about our rigs.

Again, welcome and hope to see you at NACFest 04.
