If you had to choose which would you go with?

my current ride is an '89 - stock height, c4x4 front and rear bumpers, rock sliders, an oem front skid and an arb locked d44.

or should i forget about getting a rig with straight sheet metal and focus on getting my '89 back in ship shape?

I could probably swing buying another parts rig if i knew i could part it out for the purchase price like i did with the '92 model i had.

i think I'm rambling.

I have five options.

1. dont do anything. make payments on DD, save up for lift and practice welding to make tube doors. get a new windsheild.

2. Buy a '90 model wagoneer - swap everything over, including power steering and transmission that is out on waggy. have a unique rig with reasonably straight metal and clear title.

3. buy a '99 cherokee. swap in spare transmission. sell the '89 and buy a 4-5" lift and some minor upgrades.

4. buy both. be out of money for 3-4 months. but carry over everything from my cherokee to the waggon, and the spare to the '99 bringing my xj count to assumingly, 2 and a parts donor.

5. screw the XJ and save up money for the neighbors 1957 and 1962 fc-150s, spare 4 cyl f head, 2 ramsey winches.

and still make it to ROM.

Either #4 or #5.

I think number one is the best option. No need to spend money when you dont have to. If anything else maybe #2

I agree..... no need to spend money you don't have. Trust me, a DD that needs a little bit of maintenance here and there, beats having a car payment any day.
Look at it like this, a car payment would probably be at least $300/month, plus full coverage insurance while you have it financed (another 75-100 a month, maybe more). How much could you do to your Cherokee if you took that same 375-400 a month, and put it into your XJ?

current expenditures total about 370/m for my '05 prius and insurance on it and my jeep.

I should probably just stay the course and pay off the prius sooner, work on the xj, save a bit here and there for the neighbors barn rigs.

Oh i was confused. I thought you were thinking about buying a new DD. Didn't realize you already had one.

well the jeep was my DD until 5 days ago

ok you have a stock height XJ with skids and armor... hell you know i wished i had a stock jeep with armor, and locked front and rear. my vote is keep it fix the wind shield, and wheel it smartly.

i see what you mean, still need a locked front and skids but the only real detriments to the jeep i have is that it seems to skip intermitantly, its a renix with a closed system, and it has some rear drivers side door carnage that has made the door not open and close, not a problem if i go with tube doors, but something to consider as it would preclude me from winter wheeling.

aside from those small things, which i think i could fix given time and money, its a pretty good little jeep.

however i did contact the person about buying the 300$ '99 with the bad transmission today :wierd:

havent heard back yet but i may buy it and fix it up then let my nephew buy it off of me for his first jeep.

hes getting tired of riding shotgun.

a $300 99 model? I would be all over that, even if it were just for a trail rig.

man my old jeep wasnt pretty, but i still rocked it!

man i swap that stuff that in the jeep!

yeah it may have already sold, the lady said it had been parked for a few years and wouldent start, but it ran when parked because the trans was slipping badly, looks like it had a pretty bad blowout on the front pass side, the fender looks tweaked a bit. I was going to go look at it with a can of starting fluid, a battery, and maybe a couple quarts of oil and a bottle of lucas trans treatment (you would be surprised how far you can go on a trans full of lucas)

My "price range" for a parts or project rig is usually under 300 including gas to pick it up. I might pay 4-500 for an MJ with a 4.0 4wd and straight metal. I would really like to have one of those for a work truck. mmm longbed model.

there were two for sale about 20 miles away from me but they sold, one good running truck with a rearended bed and a parts truck to swipe a new bed off of, i think it was 650 for both, couple days too late.
