Interesting rationalization and generalization. Immoral VS Illegal? Cops don't enforce morals, they enforce laws. It's the responsibility of the citizen to know the laws and live within the boundaries, or expect the appropriate consequences.
And what does age or skin color have to do with recognition of police brutality?
Cops are people, and people are often prideful, make crappy split decisions, and -those in positions of power- often exhibit god-like delusions. That's a given.
What gets me about (most) of these police abuse cases is their gang mentality. Groups of cops swarm a person without a single cop among them with enough brain cells to weigh the ethics of their decision.
Re: Immorality of Laws/etc.. Personally, I think you're living in some white-man utopian bubble devoid of reality. The US has the highest incarceration rate on the whole damn planet, and it has allot to do with private prisons that lobby to keep their capacity intact. Heck, it's not surprising they want to keep marijuana illegal when you consider more black people get busted for weed than whites. One quick search showed that in 2010, black men were incarcerated at a rate of 3,074 per 100,000 residents; Latinos were incarcerated at 1,258 per 100,000, and white men were incarcerated at 459 per 100,000. BTW, the world average for incarceration is roughly 100 per 100,000 people. Oh yeah, the NY Stop-and-Frisk stats show black and Latino communities continue to be the overwhelming target of this law (like 85%). It's only then that you realize that there are immoral laws that undermine faith among all races in the fairness and efficacy of the criminal justice system.
I was taught to obey the laws of the land and expect to get punished if caught violating them. Fortunately I learned my lesson quickly, after a brush with the law after playing with matches in my neighbors back yard at age 10.
A late night trip to the police dept and sitting in an empty jail cell while they discussed options with my father did the trick for me.....followed up by my dad's boot in my ass when we got home.
The case here appears to be excessive use of force resulting in death.
Well... at least we, now, have a bigger picture to what made XJEEPER, XJEEPER.
Since when do you obey the laws? You run a muck in the political section skewing stats until they're comparable to spitting in the face of the government. Are you just primarily against laws that don't suit your needs while defending those that hurt others? You can't have it both ways.
Anyone else wonder how/why the video wound up in the hands of the press so quickly after the incident?
Because disproportionate force was used.
Because most people wouldn't be able don't sleep on something like this if they filmed it.
