December RC Trail Ride

Who is you guys? Im by myself. I found a group of wranglers to go with an had a good time. Tomorrow im meeting with another group from rc4x4. Snowed all day and theres maybe 2 or 3 inches on the ground. Supposed to be snowing for a while so well see.

thinking about going up january 4th or 11th?

Hell yeah dude.

Props to you for stickin in there and having a great time anyway. I've been up there (camping at the park, no less) in sub-zero temps when they had to close the West property because no one could get back out of it and we still talk about that trip, 6 years after the fact.

This not-having-a-rig thing blows, can't wait to get back out there for snow runs. And yes, that means in a rig with no roof, doors, or heater. .!.:D.!.

Props X2...I cant say Im sorry enough for bailing at the last minute, especially after, well, everything. Fact is, I was way too sick. Too sick to make it into work the night before, therefore, too sick to make the run. I hated missing this run, but I cant say I'll have missed the snowy/icy roads towing to and fro the park from the campground. I'm glad you made it a great time regardless, great pics! I take it you got back home safely? The weather reports for that area looked dicey for sure...how were the roads leaving the park saturday? I'm still really curious about how the downhill back to 81, and 81 itself, were during snow like this.

Lol had a great time. I think the storm was more a dud than the monster they predicted. When i woke up sunday morning to head out(another guy i was supposed to meet subday bailed sunday morning) there was only like 4 or so inches on the picnic table. Driving back to camp from the park was ok. Roads were covered but if you ever drove on snow roads it wasnt anything different. I left if it 4 high til 81 where i put it in 2wd and towed about 40 mph with the flow of traffic. The back roads were the ones covered as expected. Took it slow and all was good. The drop into that trail was pretty cool. The group from wayalife were nice guys and i had fun. They have newer rubicons and stuff so we didnt do too challenging of trails. I dont blame them i would not wanna damage a 35k jeep. That was my first trip to the park so i dont know trail names but i do know i went up some rock called pizza rock. Lol i uust went up it no problem not even thinking anything of it. I youtubed videos of it later that night and it was funny to see guys who cant get up it when its dry.

Oh and i saw a sweet bald eagle perched up in a tree near the campground on the way there. Amazing birds for sure.

Glad you had a fun and safe time! The pictures are awesome and I look forward to seeing some of the video.

Sorry the rest of us couldn't be there ... we were all looking forward to it. But honestly, hearing about snow covered roads and 40mph traffic on 81 makes me glad I didn't go. If something goes wrong in that weather while towing, it can go really wrong, really fast.

Sorry about not being able to make it too! Seeing how it's about 90 miles of all back roads to get to Rausch up and down mountains, and I got about 8+ inches of snow at my place I probably made the right choice this go around. And I got stuck dog sitting my girlfriend's dog over the weekend, so if I got stuck getting back really late on a tow truck, I'd come back to a destroyed house.

I still have that pass to Rausch that I was graciously given - I feel bad for not taking advantage of it. Is anyone else going to make it there before the end of the year? I'll toss it in the mail to whoever will use it so it won't go to waste.

We have them nesting here now in SJ, but I've yet to see one. That had to be awesome..
I'm going with MrSimon on his asessment..even it wet conditions the hill going back down to 81 out of the park can be dicey, even with the speedbrake on my F350's trans...I dont think I'd like to try that hll if it's snow-covered, my 10k trailer all by itself is a heavy bastard. I've never towed yet in snowy conditions, and that area is no place to learn on.
That said, I "sicked out" of this one, and think it may have been a blessing in disguise.. the stars seemed aligned against me, starting with popping the trailer up into my tailgate loading up, to then getting so frigging ill that night, to finding out yesterday that I may be facing another layoff this week, it worked out that I didnt go this time. I am sorry I didnt get to hang with you again, NH was fun and it's great that youre so enthused with Naxja. Dont give up on us. :wierd:

Unfortunately, due to that upcoming layoff and the fact that I have a lot to do and save for for my September wedding, I'm calling it quits for any more trips until spring, most likely until NacFest rolls around...dont want to, but I have to be realistic and frugal..I have a big year coming up.

P.S.... :for GotBoost::: If I havent said so already, I'm glad you made it and had a good time there. More importantly, I'm glad you made it thru it all safely, nothing is more important than that. It was a much-discussed concern regarding the weather there. We look forward to hitting the trails with you again.

No worries. I woulda had a sour taste had i not found another group rofl. But its all good and im happy. Too bad it wasnt this weekend. Gonna be in the 50s hahaha

Oh and i feel you with the trailer thing because i have a big equipment trailer myself. 14k 20ft and she weighs 3300 lbs alone and i could see that getting out of control in some snow. I have a cc dually and left it in 4wd til 81. Then back in 4wd when i got off. I had a cabin so i didnt have to go far.

FYI for anyone interested / future reference - if you turn LEFT out of Rausch it is a MUCH easier and shorter trip out to the highway (turn right where the road splits, then right again). It's barely a hill in that direction and no tight curves. Puts you onto Rt 209 and the highway is right there (exit 107 - Tremont/Tower City exit off 81). I go this way all the time now unless i need to stop for gas.
