Ok I have another one straight from the Junk yard.. It is 3.55 gears and open diff, I gingerly removed the brake cables. Complete drum to drum with ubolts and spring plates... A little dirty, but all there... $350.00 local pick up.. I will clean it and weld the tubes to the diff if you like for an additional $20.00. Regearing available as well...

Weld what tubes to the diff?
Dude the tubes that keep the gyrations of the pinion stable, duh everyone knows 44s need those especially straight from the junkyard...

While I've never seen a 44 spin a tube, if clean-rc says its a good idea it probably is. That guy knows more about driveline tech than most of naxja combined. :)

not spin a tube but break one of the plug welds and then kink the tube in the housing. IIRC Scott has seen my old D44 that had that problem. Granted I rolled with that axle and maybe the weight of the rig busted the plug welds. Thing is that I've seen other D44's that had that issue. Problem I think comes from the point that I think that there is 1 at most 2 plug welds that hold the tube in the housing. When the plug weld goes from stress, all bets are off and the tube will kink itself a bit in the housing.

Nobody said it wasn't a good idea, I just didnt know what he was talking about whene he said he would "weld the tubes to the diff"... :jester:

I also will throw this out there... You can buy this axle already geared to whatever ratio you want, with detroit locker, tera flex disc brakes, and new axle bearings for $1850.00 ready to bolt into your XJ... That would make a great Christmas gift for someone...

Nice :D If it wasn't that I don't mind setting my own gears I'd consider it :D
