dana 44 seal leaking (can I use sealant?)

I have been doing some work on my D44(regear)
and I have pulled the axles like 3 or 4 times now..
locker install
regear
ect
anyways I know I should have replaced the seals but ussually I dont fix it if it
isnt broken..
anyhow the seals on both sides are leaking
from what ive read they never sit quite right for some reason
question
Is using a sealant on the outter edge of the seals a big no no??
I read that speedy seals work well but Im trying to save my self a trip to NAPA..

are you refering to the shaft seal if so then no ya can't
