Dana 44 Rear Axle Shaft - short and long of it

Which side is the shorter axle shaft - the driver side or the passenger side?
Worded in another fashiion: which side gets the shorter shaft?

This D44 is from an 87 -89 XJ if it really matters!

Think of it just like a Dana 30.

Short shaft = driver's side.
