Dana 44 front upgrade info

Spicer 5-760x?

Full or half circle clips?

Little bit of everything. Definitely doing rcvs before I throw the 44 under, don't even have gears/carrier/locker/shafts yet so the internals are still up for debate. like clean4drxj if I didn't already have the 8.8 and hadn't found that deal on the waggy and all the parts it came with I'd probably be building 1 tons

The fact that you got a great deal on yours (as I did) makes a stoutly built 44 a great option for you. If you are doing RCV's and a Jana K4 setup please do a build thread! Nothing like that on NAXJA!

For what its worth. I can't say i have ever had a spicer 5-760x fail in my dana 44.

Snapped a pair of moser outer shafts, a pair of yukon outer shafts, a bushel of stock outer shafts, a stock inner shaft, a detroit locker, and a gearset. the stockers and yukons ears broke around the U joint and I lost the caps, but the U joint itself stayed intact aside from being roughed up a little.

Mosers both broke inside the spindle.

I have not (knock on wood and say a prayer) blown up anything on my 44, but then I was Okay with a 30 as well so full circle 760's seem OK with my driving. I am trying the Alloy USA joints because they are so much less and will go to CTM's if I have a problem. I went 44 and 8.8 because I HATE trail fixes and snapped a couple rear shafts and/with a Detroit (always had to repair/replace the carrier afterward :flamemad: Won't own a Detroit rather have a lunchbox) in my old Wrangler. I also ran a Waggy 44 with Yukons and Superjoints and 35x14.50x17 Iroc radials (really 36's) on that rig and never had a problem with my front axle. I should have few worries on 35's with my driving (knock on wood and say a prayer... again).

the downside to a lunchbox is carrier flex. I am not a detroit fan myself having broken two of them, but you would be more prone to have ring and pinion carnage with the open carrier with a lunchbox over a full case locker.
