Getting ready to do the Dakota leaf pack lift on my '95 XJ.

What prep work needs done on the pack before installing?

In particular: Reusing the plasitic(?) anti-friction pads?

and/or: Remove all rust, then grease between the pads?

Anything else detail wise?

OK,here goes:
Take the stock XJ main and bolt it to the Dakota's whole leaf pack (with the spring eyes cut off). You're done:D

Seriously, though. If you want, you can clean each individual leaf with a wire brush to remove any dirt or rust from the contact surfaces. If they are in good shape, reuse the spring plastics to help a little on flex/ride quality. A good, heavy coat of spray paint on all the surfaces may help a little, too. Reassamble the packs as described above and install a set of leaf clamps about 6"-8" in front of the center pin(towards the front of the XJ). This will put it in the best position to keep the leaves from walking apart, while limiting the amount of bind introduced to the pack from the clamps.:D :D
