I have a 96' ZJ Limited V8 that is a gas hog 14 MPG (always 4 wheel, but I still love it. I had a 98' ZJ Laredo 242 auto that I'm selling. The rest of my herd is a 98' XJ 2 dr 5 speed 4x4 I'm selling and a 87' XJ Laredo beater I'm selling. My wife has the only non-Jeep a 98' Pontiac Grand Prix GTP that I like to drive as well and get that supercharger spinning.
Just because you have a XJ wheeler doesn't mean you cannot have a stock or close to stock dd XJ or ZJ. Get what you want because you're driving.
The days of short wheelbase Jeeps are behind me I think. :sad1:

Isn't that hose from the gas tank to your gas card a PIA when getting in and out though
Guy down the street just got his 69 boss 429 mustang back from the restorer, he's saying 9mpg 'but it's not broken in yet' I said 'kid in my HS class, 69, had one and he never got better then 9mpg AFTER it was broken in'.... I think it has something to do with that bowling ball holder on top of the intake manifold... any carb that flows 4 digits needs alotta go juice..
wow, you seem to have an ecclectic list there, and seem to like foreign beaters. so i doubt anything i would suggest would be considered. besides, i don't like any cars that get good mileage. i say drill for more oil, everywhere, 24/7...
just my to cents. i love the scions. i test drove one and they are huge inside. you can fit 3 bikes fully assembeld inside there. which is good if you mountain bike alot like me. but that is unbeliveable. 30MPG CITY!!!!!! for only $14000 that is not a bad new car.
oh and BTW HAHAHA here in minnesota it just peaked at $3.09 but if you look around you can get it for $2.85.
I prefer not to take on any car payments. What's the point of getting something that has better gas milage than a Jeep if you have to pay an extra car payment?
Lately I have been more concerned with AC than MPG, so I drive my XJ.
If I get picky about gas, I pass up my Dodge GLH to run my 1984 Yamaha FJ1100 at 44 mpg
my vote goes to the omni/horizon. it knocks when it's cold, needs a new carb, but still gets 25 mpg with a 3 speed auto. it looks very different next to newer cars...if i found a glh with fair mileage i would definately go with that.
Toyota pickups are great. You will get better mileage for the street and get another wheelin rig if you get 4 wheel drive.
If you want really good mileage, you need to screw cars altogether and get a motorcycle. No car can match the mileage of small to moderate size motorcycle.
i'd steer away from fiero's unless your looking for some el fuegos, so some research youll see what i mean.
Quote i grabbed form another website
"IIRC, Pontiac cheapened out on the engine rods and also found out that the oil pan was too large for the engine bay. Pontiac's solution? Well, we'll just put on a smaller oil pan! Therefore, if the engine oil level got a bit low from the owner not checking it regularly, the engine could throw a rod and/or catch fire from the oil leaking out of the block onto the hot exhaust. Once this was discovered, what was Pontiac's solution on the recall? They slapped a sticker on the gas cap that said that the OWNER must check oil levels at all gas fill-ups and that Pontiac wouldn't be responsible for any problems due to not having the oil topped up. I think there were quite a few engine fires back in the day - something like 1 out of every 500 would catch fire. Imagine if every car was a Fiero. You'd have multiple fires daily on the 401!
From what I recall, it was only the early model cars and only the 4cyl engine. By the final year in 1988, they'd worked out most of the problems and it supposedly was a fairly reliable car."
Best road-trip seats I have ever had in a car, tight handling, and good room / ride.
I put 140K of HARD miles (250+ per day at mainly high speeds) and returned 44 MPG average. Worst I ever got was 39 towing a utility trailer with about 2000 pounds of stuff on it. Best was 63 MPG with tha A/C off and a 40mph tailwind for 200 miles.
Hard to get used TDIs in Cali, though.... I sold mine to a guy who flew from San Diego all the way to Texas and drove it back.
