D-44 HELP!!!

I'm running a HP D44 out of a 79 F-250 up front and I can't get the rotor/hub assembly to tighten down completely with out about a 1/16th of slop. I have replaced both inner and outer races and put brand new bearings in this thing... I have been trying anything I can thing of to make it tight enough, I added a small spacer in between the outer wheel bearing and the ratcheting spindle nut and tightened till it won't go anymore. I had one side tightened down with no woble and couldn't get the other side to do the same for the life of me, so I took the good side completely appart to see if there was a difference. When examing the two hub assemblies beside each other it looked like the inner race was down a little further in the one that wouldn't work so I switched the races from the good hub assy. to the bad hub assy. and no luck... I've decided that I think the only reason I was being able to tighten the good hub assy. down was because the race wasn't seated quite all the way. I'm looking for any opinions or answers. It is if I seat that race completey then I'm getting that 1/16th of play in the whole hub assembly, but I don't think it is a good idea to leave that race partially un-seated. Thanks for any help.

I've requested this post be moved to the Mod Tech forum. You aren't going to see too many XJ's from the factory with Ford HP D44's, so responses here will be a bit lacking.

Just trying to help.

Those bearings come as a set with a matching spacer that goes between the two. You can find them separate but they won't work that way because the spacer is matched to the pair.. I think it called Timken bearing set3.

You don't know a part number do you, the guys at the part stores seem pretty out of it most of the time.

Thanks,
