Doing my rear bumper, what's the cut height below the quarter panel bend?

It seems like it would be complicated, but it's a 3 hour job once the bumper is out of the way. Post pics when you're done for sure.

I just did mine with an aj tanker bumper. I'm a huge fan. No worries of coming off rocks now ha ha

I had to custom cut mine due to rust/rot. I had some body panel steel in the shop, made up a patch, welded it in.

Mine looked EXACTLY like that. The driver's side was fine, so I used some of the material I cut out of that side to use on the passenger side.

When my 2001 was cut and folded, the rear bumper was built at the same time to integrate with it.
To keep a near stock look, the plastic end caps were trimmed to match .

I’m actually thinking of customizing my bumper in a similar way. I’d like to reinforce the ends by tying them into the frame just behind the wheel.

I’m actually thinking of customizing my bumper in a similar way. I’d like to reinforce the ends by tying them into the frame just behind the wheel.

In the first photo, it's dark but you can just make out the 1" X 1" square tube running from the end of the bumper extension to a piece of angle iron, bolted into the frame rail and floor.
I have smacked it a couple of times, smashing the plastic cap, without damage to the bumper.
The cut and fold eliminated my XJs two most common impact spots, before the stock bumper hit regularly in the corners and it showed.

If my memory serves from when I did mine, I want to say the height is 5 1/2 inches. Am I correct?
