And before anyone asks, "Yes, I am actually writing a book." (Seems the standard response to oddball questions is "Are you writing a book?" I plan on having a self-published first edition out by 01/05 - The Jeep I6 Power Manual. I'll let you all know... Comments at [email protected])

Anyhow - here's to-day's weird question - does anyone know where one can enquire about made-from-scratch custom cranks? Cast nodular or billet - the thing is, getting cranks offset ground is a pain and I'd like to look into other options as well - and a true high-power high-torque engine shouldn't spin around a regular grey iron crank.

Look for more odd questions soon!

Crower will make one for about $2600 (last time I checked).
But the off-road racing strokers ran the 12 cwt 73 - 79 258 crank and had very few problems with crankshaft life.
My off-set ground 4.0 crank cost $200 so there is quite a $$ difference!!!!

Yeah, but buying a crate motor defeats the purpose of my book, since they only seem to want to do small block Big 3 and little riceburners - nothing really useful. I think I'll open an engine shop when I get out of here, and try for the niche market...

Where did you get your offset grind done, and was it a "grind only" or a "weld and grind" - and if it was a "grind only" what did you do about rods?

You can use my main performance website http://www.jeep4.0performance.4mg.com and my stroker site http://www.angelfire.com/my/fan/stroker.html as information resources as long as:

a) You quote my name as the author.
b) I get a free copy of your book. ;)
c) You buy me a beer when I come and visit you.

The Crank Shop in NY State ground +.013 (NHRA Max) and you can use .020 rod bearings . The Clifford Stroker was only +.009 if I remember the specs - I am guessing they did not weld but only offset ground them - but they were not giving out secret info back then!! I beleive you can get over 300 inches with a 4." bore and the offset ground crank - a set of the Eagle rods should make a rugged motor.

I am familiar with your pages, and I was debating on whether or not to ask you if I could use information, so done, done, and DONE! Let me know when you're coming to California...

If I put anything in, I'll hit you for your address so you can get your copy...
