could a minor exh and int leak cause HUGE failing #'s during smog test?

While the exhaust leak can have an affect on the idle mixture.... the leaking instake WILL DEFINITELY have an affect on idle RPMs, performance and emissions....
ASK ME HOW I KNOW THIS !!!!
Like others have posted... fix the intake manifold leaks (torque to proper spec in the proper sequence), install a 195* tstat, IF the cat converter is more than 5 yrs old... replace it....
Purchase some ACETONE at Home Depot and add 2 oz to every 10 gallons of gasoline and drive around for the day.... Make sure the engine and cat are thoroughly warmed up when the testing is done...
YOU WILL PASS !!!!
The addition of the Acetone to the gasoline will allow for a FULL burn which results in lower emissions... Read this article....

My emissions were SO LOW that they were at or below the minimum....
