Well the bus is leaving and I can't decide what to do. I thought I had my mind made up but I keep coming back to the fact I do not want a payment.

My options are as follows.

1)Buy a class c and have about a 200-250/mo payment plus insurance. problem with this is you still have to pay for a camp site and if you don't use it every month you still have the payment.

2) Buy a truck and just stay at a hotel/cabin when wheeling. This is seeming like the most economical route.

Any other ideas?

I say a camper van. Plenty of room. Or a truck with a slide in camper? Now you have to buy a trailer to tow you junk around on!!

At least with buying a truck you can use it for other uses. Buying a camper, RV, you basically only have one use for it.

I am getting my old trailer back. Slide in just seems like a pain in the ass with no room. Camper van is out of the question for me.

Yup, at least I would have a trailer that I could go to the home improvment store with, towed by the baby jeep.

I am against a slide in because the little one is going to start coming to wheel soon and the limited space is a major concern for me.

Sounds like you need to send your deposit back. Or a white '91 Bluebird flatnose.

On-site cabins would be great where available. This hotel talk is no good - you can't bail on camping.

The Class C idea is badass but a truck is way more practical! Yeah with the RV you have a lot of room but you can't use it to haul plywood or whatever. The cost of hotels is insane so 3-4 nights of that is gonna be easily a payment. If you plan on using it 1-2 times a month that payment is easily justified. Just depends on how much you think you'll use it.

Everyones situation will be a bit different but in my case the truck/trailer/hotel option makes for a bit more pleasent trip in most cases. I have my own room and bathroom (not that I did not enjoy my morning dumps while talking to Wheeler on the other side of the stall wall) but since Camille goes on most all of the long trips with me and now that Case is starting to wheel with us, it is just easier to have a place to go back to and relax and even let the kiddo unwind w/ some TV or take a nap (me too!). I use trailers almost everyday, so it just makes sense that I always have a use for one and there is always one around. The truck camper was just too small for Camille and I for Winterfest this last year...that along with the fact I pack a lot of stuff when traveling more then 5 hours one way. I have still tossed around the enclosed trailer w/ living quarters, but it is a lot like the RV idea, it is a single use item more or less. I do not want a payment, so that ruled out anything too elaborate. Truck, trailer and an occassional hotel room is a lot cheaper then a monthly RV payment.

Cheese "loved the bus though!" Man

Slide in will work with one kid. My only pita is with the dually and the brackets make it scary to take in and out all the time. If I was only single rear wheel I would take it out more.

I think you would really enjoy the class C. It would make camping so nice that you would probably want to camp more. You're going to have to get past the payment to sit in the driveway thing. 200 or 300 a month, that's nothing, if its not moving its not losing value by adding miles. Then once its paid for its really worth having. Plus you can write it off as a 2nd home. You know the payment I'm making to have my truck sit in the driveway...but its only a matter of time and I'll have something of value with no payment when its paid for...

mac 'just make sure you keep camping' gyvr

Get a Class C Motor home, You can even find them with a diesel.
You can tow your junk around and you can use it with the family with out the 'jeep'.
Besides the horrible people I have met, the love of camping is one of the best things I have gotten out of this club.

Or you could do this...
